In memory of Dr. Jocelyn Bezner

The chimpanzee community, and certainly beyond, lost a special human in Dr. Jocelyn Bezner last year. Today was Jocelyn’s birthday and our heartfelt thanks to Jen Feuerstein, for honoring her and her incredible legacy with this day of sanctuary for the chimpanzees.
While Dr. B, as she was affectionately known, left such an absence in the lives of those who loved and cared for her, as well as those she loved and cared for, we know she also filled so many lives immeasurably. We’re thinking of them all, human and chimpanzee, as we get to honor her today (photo courtesy of Save the Chimps):

I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Dr. B at STC a number of years ago. What I remember most is how much she looked like my cats’ vet and I had even asked our vet if they were sisters. I had no idea she had passed, so thank you for sharing this.

Thank you, Jen, for remembering Dr. Bezner on her date of birth. As with Dr. Ross of Chimp Haven, people like Dr. B were heroes in applying their scientific knowledge and humane compassion to attending to our primate cousins. As I’ve posted before the chorus of a Bowie tune, “We can be heroes…”
You nailed it with the Bowie song, Tobin, and Dr B was one heck of a hero.
