Today is our very own Burrito’s 39th(!) birthday! And Paulette Wrisley wanted to help celebrate this incredibly energetic, goofy, and handsome guy by sponsoring his birthday!

Burrito in a tub is so darned cute….can’t wait for party video!
Hapy Birthday to beloved Burrito!! The first thing I did today was check the weather in Cle ELum. 🙂 SNOW galore! Mother Nature smiled upon Burrito today (for the caregivers and volunteers, so sorry all this snow means lots of extra work for all of you).
Thank you Birthday Fairy! I am beginning to believe you are an actual fairy and you waved your magic wand and Voilà! SNOW for the birthday boy.

Five years ago next month, seeking a psychic refuge from the particular turn of malevolence which had descended upon the late-imperial American anthroposphere (to paraphrase Sir Walter Scott, “Evil spirits cannot enter a house unless elected.”), I happened in my net-surfing to stumble upon a video with the title “Rescued Chimpanzee plays with Caregiver.” Stories about human mistreatment of other animals are often too much for me to bear, and I was initially reluctant to click on the Youtube selection featuring this video.
Alas, Benevolent spirits can also issue invitations. Thus, I clicked on the tab. Over the course of three minutes (“Wow! It’s almost sounds 1like that chimpanzee is laughing!,” I thought as my ertswhile distant cousin chomped on a wooden block while engaged in games of tug-of-war and up-high, down-low with his human friend), this ebullient, freckle-faced beauty transfixed me. “I’ve got to know who this is!,” I whispered aloud in awe before the library’s computer monitor. In seconds, I ventured to the CSNW website.
In those three minutes of that video, a chimpanzee with the improbable name of “Burrito” opened an entirely new world to me, a welcome respite that has proven to trump the malice of the human society against which I contend. What an absolute blessing Burrito is, not only to me but to so many other people. I love Burrito and those who share his sanctuary, and hope that his birthday will portend another year of his endearing essence.
