The many uses of enrichment

The chimps are not known for being gentle with the enrichment they receive. Many of the toys they get each day have a primary use (to be examined and played with) and a secondary use (to be destroyed by any means possible). I imagine there’s something pretty enjoyable about making a huge pile of fun destruction and then have housekeeping come in every morning so you can do it all over again.

“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, troll dolls to…nest upholstery?” Leave it to Jamie the Wise-woman to not let a good troll doll carcass to go to waste. She obviously knows well the joys and virtues of creative recycling.

I am so used to seeing shelter dogs shred and obliterate stuffed toys with gusto so I was amazed at the delicate, gentle touch Annie used to pluck the stuffing out of that Troll arm. Graceful even! And Jamie cleaning her sunglasses cracked me up. Send my love to each of them!
