Grooming

Grooming is one of the most important activities in chimpanzee society. The caregivers at CSNW play an important role in the chimps’ social world, so we also groom with the chimps when they request it. Some of the chimps like to be groomed by their caregivers, but others, like Jamie, prefer to do the grooming.

It’s such a sweet statement that the chimps choose to share this bonding ritual with their caregivers. 🙂

Not to mention the amount of mutual trust that goes with grooming.

I agree with you Anna, what a truly wonderful gift you received J.B. Jamie looks like she’s been filing her nails again, nice and short. This is a really a good picture, I love chimpanzee hands.

a stunning, powerful image … if only it could always be this … not one species dominating, incarcerating and obliterating another … oops, sorry (no, i’m not)

This photo just brought tears to my eyes. It is so touching and I feel honored to get a peek into this exchange. How lucky you are J.B. and how lucky the chimps are now to have that kind of trust in humans so they can enjoy their life. Thanks for the photo J.B. and welcome back.
