Cold Snap

The Pacific Northwest is experiencing a cold snap this week. Today the high is 18ºF with a low of 5ºF tonight. With temperatures such as these, the chimpanzees have sought refuge in the upstairs areas of their respective playrooms where it is nice and warm. They are all napping as I write this.

With days like today, it can be difficult to get photos of the chimpanzees. The upstairs areas are notoriously difficult (read pretty much impossible) to take photos of. I was able to get a few opportunistically throughout the afternoon, mostly during lunch when they all came down.

Terry eating his carrot during lunch.

Willy B working up his display toward Cy’s group during lunch service.

Dora waiting for her turn to be served her lunch.

Rayne eating her primate chow on the highest leaf platform on the tree in her playroom.

Mave and Honey B grooming after lunch.

Mave!

Just when we thought Qilly B couldn’t be more handsome! What a great pic of him!
I hope Li’l Dora got her.lunch! How nice of her to be patient! Do all 3 of the gents eat before the ladies, Chad?

Dora did get her lunch! And the males in her group are actually quite patient themselves, particularly Cy. We usually start out with whomever is ready to be served first, which sometimes does start with Dora. There isn’t a strict serving order with Dora’s group like there can be from time to time in Jamie’s group.

That’s fascinating, Chad! And probably makes your lives easier, too! Less politics!

GLAD THEY HAVE THOSE UPPER SPACES…………………where are the outdoor, four legged critters…?

Mave has an expression on her (beautiful) face that seems to be reacting with incredulity to the weather forecast. How reassuring to know that she access to more suitable atmospheric conditions within her luxury living quarters, clad in her fashionable winter outfit.

i agree, Mave is quite beautiful in such an unusual way. I just love the way her hair lies around her head and face. I guess I should say she is simply adorable!

I have a grin from ear to ear seeing the two freckle faces Mave and Terry. Dora is sweet to wait her turn, or perhaps I should say Dora is smart to wait her turn with Willy B showboating across the hall. And at first glance I thought Rayne was Lucky simply because she was hanging out in the firehoses, one of Lucky’s favorite places. I should have recognized Rayne’s distinctive forehead. She looks as if she’s had a busy, fun-filled long day. Or maybe she’s remembering the warmth of sunny California! :sun_with_face:

May you all dream of warm sunny days when you get home tonight. Thanks for the wonderful photos Chad, they certainly warmed my heart.

Rayne actually can be found on the firehose very often. In fact, as I’m thinking about it, at times it seems she almost exclusively wants her meals served to her while she is on the firehose vines. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I have served a meal where she wasn’t on a firehose vine.

That’s so funny. You gotta admire a gal who knows what she likes.

Glad to hear everyone is staying toasty, we’re experiencing similar weather here in Minneapolis after a fairly mellow fall. All I do is want to do is eat a lot, sleep a lot, and curl up where it’s warm with a good mazagine. If you guys ever think of opening a retirement sanctuary for humans, count me in.

Betsy, a friend in Afton has been telling me about the snow. I can’t say that I miss it. We had a gray, dark Christmas weekend with a dusting, but will see 50s and sun on Friday. All the better for hanging a bird feeder!
