To build a nest

Our two washing machines have a full time job here at the sanctuary. Almost every day we run both machines from the moment we arrive at the sanctuary to the moment we leave, all in the name of a good nest!

Exhibit A (a few good nests):

Our hardworking volunteers and staff are well-acquainted with the laundry process at the sanctuary. There’s a lot of behind the scenes laundry that goes on to make just one clean nest. Keeping the machines going and folding all those blankets can be a daunting task. As you might imagine, it’s never fun when we have a washer that goes out of commission.

Good news though, you can help support all of our nest formation efforts by contributing to our commercial washer fund during our Comfort and Joy Auction, happening now! Thank you all for helping the chimpanzees create those big beautiful fluffy nests!

I love nesting. There is nothing like bundling up under warm, soft blankets on a chilly northwest night. And here’s my deal, if someone else washes dishes and sweeps floors, I’d gladly do the laundry.

I love everyone’s different approaches to nesting. From Neggie’s layers of blankets, to Jamie’s intricate assortments of her favorite things, it’s always really neat to see how everyone’s nests reflect their individual personalities!

Seeing their nests is almost as delightful as listening to their happy food squeaks and grunts. Almost! I honestly see the nests as works of art.

With all those blankets, daily needing a thorough cleaning, you could add a wing to the building that serves a laundromat! How you manage all that laundry is astounding. It’s easy to see why you would need a machine! Maybe you could hook up with the manufacturer as one of their “test subjects” to put their machines to the test for heavy loads!

Good idea, Kathleen. i was thinking zbout a corporate donation for a commercial washer and dryer would be great.
