Summer has officially arrived at the sanctuary, with temperatures soaring close to 100 degrees daily. Keeping our chimpanzee residents and staff cool, calm, and collected is no small feat when the heat tries to bring out our grumpier sides! In today’s blog video, we’re sharing some of the ways we combat boredom, using play and enrichment, to keep everyone happy and comfortable despite the sweltering weather. Check it out!

I think Annie is wanting you to take the boots off!!! I know she’s a big fan of sandal weather. Foxie munching on her watermelon is so cute, as is the Neggie and Bub play session. I love Jamie laying back on the chair! is that a bonobo book tucked into her pelvic pocket, I spy?
You read my mind! I was thinking “this is a rare any moment! She almost never wants to hang with you guys, and she wants you to take off your boots so she can tickle your toes!”
I get such a kick when they start grabbing each others heads. It’s also nice to see more of Annie, I love that girl. Gaynell, how are you coping with the heat in OR.? I have a brother in Eugene and he’s been spending many hours working in their vegetable garden and is ready for some cooler weather…aren’t we all..
Nancy, it has been blistering hot in OR; doesn’t even cool down at night. If I had a Gatorade pool like the chimps, I’d sit in it. Hope you are cool in WA,.
Everyone looks cool, peaceful and relaxed. And while Foxie may have been expending extra energy slurping the spaghetti, she still looked pretty chill doing it! How Jamie comfortably balances on her little chair is beyond me. She’s a Zen Master. Cy is so handsome, and content. You would never know it’s been a wicked hot summer, you have everyone enjoying themselves.
I hope all of you hard working hard cleaning caregivers found time to gather around your own human Gatorade tub or at the very least took a break to slurp on some watermelon.

How Jamie looked so comfy balancing on that little chair is beyond me. Annie and Foxie were so cute. I burst out laughing watching Neggie and Bubba. The eldest and the youngest. She puts up with his grabbing her head like he’s going to take it off. I don’t get it. :joy:
They’ve figured out that Neggie likes to be slapped on the head when playing. :person_shrugging_tone1:?

Oh my wee Budda Queen, with her wee pudding belly as we call it here. I love when she gets into a playtime with Bubba. And how amazing was Foxie, didnt miss a slurp. Brillant video, and for us in Scotland anything over 60 degs, is far too hot for us, we cant stand it. So we send cool thoughts and love your way to all.
