Cow Lick

Getting licked by a cow is like being licked by a 1/2-ton cat (but without all of the kicking and biting afterwards). Their tongues are very rough! When their coats are longer, cow licks can result in some beautiful abstract impressionist artwork.

Although slow, Meredith appears to be moving pretty well. I hope she’s not in too much discomfort.
What a lovely video, and with a happy ending, too. I surmise that Betsy has a favorable regard for her human neighbors.
I have been wondering if the Cattle had access to shade; query answered. And, as Cindee alludes to in the previous comment, what is Meredith’s health status at present?
Her treated joint did show more fusion on her last radiograph (in May) and her vet team is hoping that staying active on pasture will help that continue. But she has other arthritic joints that will continue to bother her and ultimately we’ll just have to assess quality of life and weigh the potential efficacy of further treatments against the stress and general difficulty they would entail. She gets daily meds to help manage pain and that seems to help. I have to point out that while Meredith is undoubtedly expriencing some discomfort, she was always at the pack of the pack and on this occassion she kept up with her herd mates better that she ever has!
She was a teooper this go round! Imagine how Kevin Richardson feels when his lions and leopards lick him!
JB, do you guys ever worry about the cattle being that far away, and closer up the mountain to predators’ territory?
Cougars have killed adult cattle before but occurances are rare. We’d be more concerned about leaving sheep or goats on the upper pastures overnight if they weren’t guarded but a 900-1500lb cow is much larger than their typical prey.
Thanks, JB. Since I don’t live in the area, I didn’t know if you had pack hunters, such as wolves. Our coyotes here on the island are starting to hunt in packs.lately, though most are too small to take on Mer! Itsthe larger coywolves we.look out for.
I’ve never been licked by a cow but I have a large cowlick on the back of my head. As others have noted, the video is beautiful. The cows seem intent on getting wherever they are headed. I’m happy to hear that Meredith is keepin up with the other two and that her meds seem to be giving her some relief.
Like Cindee and Tobin, I’ve a little curious about Meredith’s progress ever since the gals were moved to the first summer pasture. Appreciate the update J.B.! Must have brightened your day to see her keeping up on this journey. This pasture looks so beautiful, I hope its beauty helps Meredith in her healing process.
I have been licked by a cow(s) but my pals are also drooly! Maybe this was due to the fact I was feeding them special treats. Sort of like giving treats to a gigantic St. Bernard only slimier but equally as sweet!
A cow lick is always better than a low kick! (sorry…..)
