Best of Both Worlds
July 24, 2024 by Kelsi -
Today has been a busy day, well for the humans anyways, for the chimps it has been very pleasant! It has finally cooled off a little and I think we are all thankful for a break from the hundred degree heat! The chimps spent their day playing, grooming, foraging, and a little hooting and hollering. In the video, you will find Dora and Honey B playing in their regularly-scheduled hookie session from their group to have a solo play session while we clean around them. On the other side of the chimp house, Jamie, Missy, and Negra had a very sweet grooming session before their lunch forage!
It wouldn’t be Wednesday without some bonus photos!
It must be Christmas in July because our foyer is full:

“The greatest honor you can have is to receive a kiss from Negra.” How fortunate are those who have received a Royal kiss from the Queen. Then again, I surmise that Neggie likes the human attendants who work for her at her Castle.
It looks as if you caught Honey B and Dora in the act! They look so innocent (or is it guilty?!) at the start. But in no time, they are back to their sheet shenanigans. I am curious where little Ms. Mave is during the morning We-Refuse-To-Shift play sessions.
It’s heartwarming to see Jamie grooming Negra. It’s a Queen Sandwich with dear Negra dab smack in the middle. Lucky Negra!
There’s always something special happening at the sanctuary.
Good to see Neggie getting the royal treatment!
I hope Gordo gets some grooming time with someone
It seems like Miss Honey Beans has succeeded into turning sweet little Dora into a deliquent! At least they got an epic play session out of it!
Wow, the amount of parcels full of gifts is impressive! Thank you all, generous Christmas-in-July Donors! ?It has just come into my mind that the laugh made by Honey-B and Dora must be different from the one apes “produce” when they’re tickled. In the latter case it might be a physiological reaction to the release of happiness-hormones triggered by the touch, but in this case there’s no such physical trigger (although I’m sure loads of happiness-hormones are released in their brains), so for me it seems more like human laugh when we react to a humourous situation by laughing. (Which requires abstract thinking if I’m not wrong.) Maybe for Honey-Bee and Dora the humour-factor is the fact that they pretend to fight, but in reality they just play?
