What’s in the blog? WHAT’S IN THE BLOG!?!?

The answer is a few things are in today’s blog!

First up is this series of photos I got of Mora yesterday. For those who are new to the blog, Mora is the name staff have loving given Mave and Dora when they are together. Usually where you find one, you’ll find the other. These photos I got from the perspective of the foot box while I was playing with Dora. I had a hard time deciding which photo would make it to the blog. However, after consulting with other staff members, the answer was all of them should just make it since they too had a hard time deciding.

Dora and Mave through the foot box:

Next up, I have been thinking recently about some of the amazing soundtracks/compilation albums. As I was listening to one on the way to work the other day, I asked myself, which songs would be a part of “Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest: The Soundtrack.” Enlisting some help, here are the songs staff think would make a pretty good Spotify playlist:

“Baby Love” by The Supremes

“Enter Sandman” by Richard Cheese (Metallica cover song)

“Feel the Noize” by Quiet Riot (Slade cover song)

“Heavenly Day” by Patty Griffin

“Ice, Ice, Baby” by Vanilla Ice

“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen

“The Rocky Montage” from the movie “Rocky”

“Get Ur Freak On” by Missy Elliot

“Murder Train” song from the television show “How I Met Your Mother”

“The Girl from Ipanema” by Antônio Carlos Jobim

Everyone had their reason for their choice. Like how “Enter Sandman” was listened to during the transport of Willy B, Honey B, and Mave from Wildlife Waystation. Or how a staff member sings “Baby Love” with some lyric substitutions to include Honey B. If you had a song that you think would be on a soundtrack about the sanctuary, which one would you choose?

Lastly, early giving has opened up for our GiveBig campaign. This year we hope to raise $50,000 for our BIG personalities, BIG appetites, and BIG plans for the future! Every little bit helps us reach our goal to provide the best life for our residents. The actual date for GiveBig is May 2-3. Be sure to check out our fundraiser page here!

I love today’s blog, and the suggestions for the CSNW soundtrack (I recall the serenade provided by Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine from the video of Willy, Mave and Honey B’s sojourn north to the Sanctuary). Ari nd that same time I had offeref my choices of Beatles tunes which I associated with the cattle and the original Gang of Seven.

For the Gang of Nine, I offer the following punk anthems as a soundtrack:.

For Willy B, “Lust for Life” by Iggy Pop.

Terry — “Looking for a Kiss”, by the New York Dolls.

Rayne — “Sheena is a Punk Rocker”, by the Ramones.

Gordo — “Cretin Hop”, also by the Ramones.

Lucky is kind of hard to choose for, since she ofyen seems to be hanging out far above. Somehow, “Misadventure” by Squeeze came to mind. I hope that Lucky will approve.

Honey B. — “I Love a Man in a Uniform”, by Gang of Four. A punk-disco hybrid, perhaps, but it has an assertive — and subversive — attitude.

Dora — “Oh! Bondage! Up Yours!”, by X-Ray Spex. Early Riot Grrrl rebel song.

From the Pacific Northwest, perhaps an unintended if fitting protest against the exploitation of chimpanzees in entertainment and ad hous pets, I offer Sleater-Kinney’s “Entertain” in honor of Dora’s bestie, Maeve.

Finally, from the Twin Cities, in honor of Cy’s bibliophilia, I offer “Something I Learned Today” by local heroes Husker Du.

Correction:. I think that a better Honey B song might be “Teenage Kicks” by the Undertones. Short, fadt, and she can skateboard to it.

Such funny faces in the foothold. For those trying to keep up with Burrito on the run, may I suggest “Hold on I’m Comin’.” And for Negra’s climb to the top of the tower it might be “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

These photos are too much. Dora is such a ham! I am thrilled you included each one. So funny and sweet at the same time.

For some reason the song by Carol King “You’ve Got A Friend” came to mind.

      That IS a sweet one!

(lol, it made me think of “Best Friend” by Saweetie )

Kathleen, exactly the song that came to my mind! It couldn’t be a better fit and a lesson human people could learn from chimp people!

Hey, Kathleen, I completely agree with you — “You’ve Got a Friend” is perfect!! thanks for thinking of it!

    Ew, that title, Chad!

How ’bout “Swinging”? As in “and they were swingin’…” Jamie could do some boot scoot to that one.

I think for Neggie, Joe Arroyo, “Rebelión”

“Bubbly” is sweet, not sure if it’s right.

For Foxie- You Spin Me Right Round or Spinning Around

I think for all of them — “Happy”. Doesn’t matter if it’s Bobby McFerrin’s or Pharell’s- they both work (all that hand clapping….)

    • Avatar Tobin on April 19, 2023 at 10:48 am

Or, for that matter, may I suggest “Happy” as conceived and sung by my personal hero Keith Richards? I’ve long discerned a “happy” resemblance ‘tween Keef and Willy B.

Love the pictures of Mora in the foot box. Two songs I would select for the soundtrack would be Friends by Bette Midler and Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses (for my sweet Honey B.

Loved todays blog and photos. Thank you, Chad. My choice for the sanctuary soundtrack would be That’s What Friends Are For by Dionne Warwick.
