The Great Hose Heist

What a day!
One of the enrichment items we pass out for the chimps in the evening before caregivers leave are treat buckets. For treat buckets, we fill buckets with a variety of soft enrichment items (socks, scarves, etc.) and put seeds, nuts, or fruit slices in the bottom. We place these on the outside of the caging and give the chimps bamboo sticks so they can get the goodies out of the buckets. Straight forward concept, right? Pretty fool proof, right? That’s what we thought, too.
We were wrong.
We came in this morning and discovered that there was some sneaky heist action last night after the caregivers went home! Check out the blog video to see who was involved and what happened.

This really needed the Honey-B-toy-in-the-hydraulic-door photo…”who? me?!” (I am on my.phone, so I can’t read the tiny print on the videos when it’s blurry at the beginning, but saw Willy B was there)
Man, Grace, rhey barely.waited for you guys to get out the door! Will the DST cause these shenanigans to c9 tinue all summer!? We’ll all stay tuned!

Of course with Honey B’s intelligence, it was rather easy as she added perseverance and patience to her other attributes.. But sweet, innocent little Dora…..who would have thought that such naughty tricks were in her rerpertoire? Just when you thought you knew them all, a whole new bag of tricks is presented! Never a dull moment!
This was a great whodunnit! Perfect lighting, music, suspense… I can’t stop laughing.
Dora brandishes that hose like Indiana Jones cracking a whip!
Curiosity, ambition, tenacity…I mean, it’s not as if there was a sign saying “Please do not pull the garden hose and dismantle it. Thank you, the Mgmt.”. At least Beezie, Dora and other Unindicted Co-conspirators didn’t replicate Washoe’s seizure of a bottle of Mr. Clean and chug-a-lug its contents (contrary to Roger Fouts’ initial alarm, drinking a bottle of Mr. Clean did not prove fatal, but, rather, had a decidedly laxative effect on the World’s only sign-language-fluent chimp, circa 1967). A good time, apparently, had by the Gang of Nine.

Oh my, my!! Geez, yes, another wish-list hose in the making! What perseverance! What creativity! What hilarity! Talk about being focused on accomplishing a goal and the use of tools…and I’d guess the placement of the new hose on the wall will be farther away from the caging from now on. Who’d ever have thought that this would happen. Guess she was bored, or trying to give the humans something to ponder in their spare time about who ‘dun it and how? So glad she could show up that pesky hose with her brilliance and creativity! And that it was recorded for all to see!

Honey B has been sitting in on or spying on your enrichment meetings. Maybe she has a new job, and a title? Ditto what Kathleen said. :sunglasses:
All I can say is thank your lucky stars that the two groups didn’t become one. I shudder to think of the trouble Honey B and Jamie could get into if they were together! :astonished:
Grace, your subtitles had me laughing, as did your choice of music. There is no doubt in my mind, Ms. B has been scheming and waiting for this perfect moment. Why else would she go directly to the hose one minute after Sofia leaves the building? It is simply too funny. Dora and Honey B make a deadly duo, especially with Dora cracking that whip! (But seriously, thank goodness no one was hurt.)
Now you need to rethink everything along your walls and see to it that nothing will be within their reach, errr.. make that their chopstick reach! :laughing:

Wow, Honey B was determined!!! And I believe that entertainment was worth the sacrifice of the hose, lol. And the credits at the end was the icing on the cake.
I knew my girl, Honey B, had to be involved before watching the video. It makes me wonder if she was planning that for a while. I hope she isn’t teaching little Dora her finer tricks.
haha, Best clip ever! So clever and intelligent, and what were they really thinking? Do they associate that hose with watered down Gatorade in the swimming pool? Or some other treat? They all worked so hard, and I am especially surprised by sweet little demure Dora!
It was like, ” shut the door Sophia, we’ll set up some enrichment and everybody no nesting until we’re done.”
Like toddlers, in a way: “Time left unattended? Approximately 39 minutes.”
OMG this was so so so funny. I’ll be thinking of it and laughing to myself all day. Thanks for sharing it. The photo of the broken up pieces of the hose was a great climax to a very clever video. Music was perfect too.
So considerate of you to provide night time enrichment!! Too bad you can’t “bottle” their patience, deviousness, cleverness and sell it!!
