Dora and The Multipurpose Box

We all know that Gordo has an affinity for his boxes. He loves to sit in them, use them as a table, even last night as I served him dinner, I watched him carefully put every slice of food delicately into his box.

Yesterday, we put in a new type of box into Gordo’s group’s enclosures. It is a wider, flatter box, which we thought Gordo would love. Much to our surprised, we haven’t seen him utilize it and keep to his usual. Rayne and Terry have taken turns sitting or nesting in it.

Dora, however, has found this box to suite all her needs.

First, it was the perfect place to lounge around.

It also made a great area to eat dinner.

As well to enjoy her evening enrichment: ice eggs.

When I arrived this morning, she had converted her box into a fort with the simple addition of another box.

Update:

I just walked back there and Cy has decided this would make his perfect reading nook.

In the wild, they rarely seldom remain in an area very long..? if so, encrochment into a previously used space must be expected..? so there is never, rarely, often a confrontation over the selected spot and material utilized…?

So often I find myself cracking up over the daily blog posts. Like today! Your days must be filled with countless momnets where you stop dead in your tracks and laugh to yourself. Like little Dora on the new box, feet up, looking directly at you — oh to stand there in your shoes (or boots). I am so pleased Dora found the box so useful. Well…..until it was repurposed as a private library for Cy this is.

And that top photo is fantastic, who needs the “Photo Booth” when you have Dora as your model?! ?

All Cy needs is a robe and a pipe to settle down for reading hour!

Good for Cy! And for Dora! Those of us with children and pets know the high value of boxes. And I was just talking about boxes with a friend who’s moving!

There’s news in chimpanzee world about chimps medicating one another. I got so excited about it that I forwarded the info here, under “Contact.” But I saw another article today, so I simply must share it. I do take exception to one line, where it says research shows that the use of tools is a learned behavior. I thought it was well-settled that Jane Goodall was the first to recognize chimps using tools. Well. Anyway:

aw. I love the top photo of Dora. I zoomed in a bit and did a screenshot and saved it to my chimp album. The look on her face is just precious. Some of the box photos are just hysterical. Dora with her feet up, Cy taking over LOL. Fun blog today. Thank you!
