The Storm Before the Calm

Last night I heard a new take on a familiar phrase while watching PBS NewsHour. Jonathan Capeheart, while referring to something political, said the phrase, in a very deliberate way, “The storm before the calm.”

I often get phrases or little bits of lyrics in my head that repeat without me even realizing it, and “the storm before the calm” has been with me all day.

Earlier this week, I was describing chimpanzees to someone as being either very quiet and mellow or loud and explosive. Of course they have in-between states too, but chimpanzees do often seem to have a dual way of being that can flip in an instant.

What I like about the inversion of that familiar phrase about storms and calms is its fundamental truth. We can worry about the storms when things are calm, but, during storms, we can also try to appreciate that calm is sure to follow.

Like most days with chimpanzees, there were a few stormy moments, but for the most part, things were very calm.

I think that as time goes by, the faces of the chimpanzees and the cattle become even more beautiful. I hope that you will show these photographs to Jamie and Jody.

Jody and zen Jamie. I’m calm now. (Calm and giggling over Jody going in head first for a sip of water I assume.)

The very satisfied look on Jamies face: “Now This I can get used to….”
She does have a very calm and zen aura around her; a true Boss lady being groomed by her underlings…..
    Can life gét any better?

Great photos and post. Seems like the chimps are maturing and being real chimps. Aren’t they lucky to have such
wonderful care in a beautiful home – FINALLY I hope it can erase the trauma they experienced before CSNW.
    Congrats to all you caregivers.

:heartbeat:oh these photos melt my heart today

i’m catching up today on the past few blog posts. I’ve been hesitant to ask, because I know how busy you all are at CSNW. but would it be possible to reinstate the “new comments notifications” via email?

Because she may not go back and look at the blog of the other day, I want to say again to Elaine, “here is a warm embrace for you Elaine.”

The blogs and comments lift our spirits every day!

Hi Paulette! Maybe you didn’t get my email responding to this a couple of weeks ago. Here’s the situation:
When we switched software to allow for emojis that meant the “follow comment“ feature went away. There might be some additional software we can add to bring back this feature, but it might take some time and further experimentation to find out.
