In honor of Earth Day!

Thank you, Dean and Kathy Featherstone, for sponsoring this special day of sanctuary for the chimpanzees in honor of this magical and mystical world we all share. We so appreciate you!

“On April 22, 1970 my dog and I partook in the first Earth Day walk in San Francisco to raise awareness for the plight of the Earth’s health and the creatures that inhabit it. There was no EPA, no Clean Air Act, no Clean Water Act at the time and no legal or regulatory mechanisms to protect our environment.

The East Coast was encountering acid rain and the Cuyahoga River near Cleveland caught fire from pollution. Rivers in the Colorado Rockies were poisoned by Lead, Copper and Mercury mining. San Francisco Bay was closed to bathers/swimmers from pollution.

In Spring 1970, Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin created Earth Day as a way to force this issue onto the national agenda; The World followed. Have a Happy Earth Day and thanks to those that made this day possible.”

Thank you, Kathy (and thanks as well to your dog friend). We have come so far, we have yet so far to go, and so much left to do, and not much time as before. To be, or not to be: that is the question.

Thank you Tobin for sharing our sentiments. You’ve hit the nail on the head with your comment.

Katelyn, thank you so much for your words and the pictures you selected. They are beyond what I had hoped for. Happy Earth Day to you, everyone and everything at CSNW.

Thank you for sharing Earth Day with the chimps and bovines and all the great people that take care of them. We must do all we can to protect the earth and the special beings that share it with us.

Thanks you Jackie. When I realized this 51st Earth Day was approaching, I immediately thought of the Chimpanzees, the cows and the beautiful setting they live in. Clean air, land and water; something we all have in common.

    Thanks!
Katelyn, what a beautiful frog pic! That is amazing camouflage! (Necessary when you’re in Neggie’s vicinity)

Linda, isn’t it great? Anna took that. 🙂 Indeed, frogs should steer well clear of Negra. :/

Dear Dean and Kathy Featherstone, thank you for still honoring your commitment to Mother Earth all these years later. Such a significant day to sponsor. I too recall that first Earth Day and the dire situation our environment was in. Your message with Katelyn’s splendid selection of photos today instills hope in me. As Jane Goodall says : “Let’s think of every day as Earth Day”

    (Well said Tobin!) 😉

You’re welcome and thank you for your comments, particularly Jane Goodall’s; sentiments I’ve tried to hold onto since that first Day back in 1970. A time when Americans were “enlightened” to so many important issues.
