little random moments

The video above is a little bit random, but the days are a little random.

Little moments catch my fancy, like Jody with her great big eyes and Jamie and Burrito running with the Gator.

Spring is definitely in the air. The killdeer and red wing blackbirds are calling, the trees are starting to bud, the bovines are shedding their extra winter hair, and Mave is sunning herself at the top of the chute.

It’s the simple and subtle things that pull me forward towards the next day of random moments.

Haha, unlike other places, crunch time at CSNW is a GOOD thing!

    Thank you Diana!
This was a real treat, I could watch/hear Jody crunching all day long.
I don’t know how, but she seems Happy and very serious at the same time.
And Gator racing is always fun. 🙂

What a delight to be up so close to Jody’s lovely face. Those curious bright eyes! (checking herself out in your phone right?) Fun listening to her crunching on the chow. And I’m still giggling over the new BFF’s patrolling Young’s Hill together. Was there a race with the Gator on the final stretch and if so, who won?

Aw, I feel like it was Jamie… it seems like she was holding back on her speed today so Bubba could catch up, whereas before, they would have just left him behind. After months and months of Energizer Burrito, something slows him down a bit. Nice of her to wait.

Yes, Jody was trying to look into the camera of the phone, perhaps seeing a reflection of herself (it wasn’t in selfie mode). Burrito actually pulled ahead at the end! 🙂

There is something mesmerizing about watching the chimpanzees eat and listening to them chew their food. I agree with CeeCee: Jody seems both happily serious and seriously happy at once.

And it is heartening to see Jamie and Burrito being friends with each other.

Loved the chomping and the expression on her face like “this is serious business”,

I can’t stand to hear humans chew but I could listen to Jody all day! I am guessing when they were in cages all they got was chow; I guess in small doses it’s like eating something you ate when you were little, not the best but as a snack with all the wonderful food you feed them they seem to love it in small doses. Isn’t Negra the oldest? Because I noticed she likes to eat her bags first. They’re amazing souls and so are the staff at CSNW

I’m the same – I love the sounds of chimpanzees chewing, but do not at all appreciate the same sounds from humans :). You are right that their primary diet in the labs were chow. We were planning on getting rid of it eventually, but they do still appreciate it, so it’s more of a snack to end the meal at breakfast and lunch. Negra is the oldest and she does indeed want her chow upfront!

Isn’t the chow high protein as well, Diana? That means it keeps them feeling full longer. They must have learned over the years, from experience, that it’ll “top them off”

        • Avatar Diana on March 9, 2021 at 10:10 am

Yes, it is higher in calories and has protein. Top them off is how I think of it too.
