The Path to a New Day

As the snow continued to come down this morning as staff arrived, we were prepared for another snowy day.

We were anticipating a full day of snow as the forecast had predicted. Luckily enough, we caught a break! By early afternoon, the sun broke free of it’s clouded prison and started to warm the cold air outside.
The sun allowed staff the perfect opportunity to shovel pathways to the structures on Young’s Hill, to give the chimpanzees the option for easier access to the hill.
Though the option was presented to them, they all decided to stay indoors or in the Greenhouse.
Burrito was ready to play chase with staff and waited patiently for us to get done cleaning.
Negra was just ready for dinner.
Mave spent a lot of time playing with huge strips of paper.
Once she noticed me, she stopped playing and decided to play it cool as though nothing was happening.
We consider ourselves very fortunate our residents are currently in their nests and about to go to sleep during this cold snap. However, Primarily Primates located in Texas is in need of local, emergency help. They have lost power and are currently trying evacuate some of their residents while trying to care for those still in place. If you live in the San Antonio, TX area or know someone who is, who can safely deliver some of these much needed items, please do if you can. As caregivers of some amazing individuals, our thoughts and hearts go out to Primarily Primates’ caregivers and their amazing residents during this difficult time.

Many thanks to Chad and those who helped him today make the pass for the chimpanzees to get out and play if they would like to. I find that to be very special and of great character of the caregivers at the sanctuary. But, after just going through a week of negative degree temperatures here in Billings I don’t blame the chimpanzees one bit for wanting to stay inside.
Thank you again for the cool blog and the beautiful pictures and prayers for the sanctuary in Texas that they get through this.

Loved the narrative today- it moved my attention through the day, along with the activity. How cool of Mave! Negra just ready for dinner. Burrito waiting patiently for a game of chase. And, Chad, your own poetic word picture of the sun breaking through its “clouded prison.” That was a delight!
So awful for the Texas Primates! I’m sure they’ll get their needs met, though having to wait through cold and uncertainty. I hold them all in the Light.
I looked at the Primarily Primates website. Do you know if they are set up on Amazon, like you are? I could not find anything. Such weather! The entire continent is snowed in!
Even if they are, delivery would likely be very late. Supplies already in the area are needed

Your poetic perspective of the sun making her appearance warmed my heart. How is it that each and every caregiver (past and current) possess so many creative skills?!
Love the way you always shovel pathways for the chimps so they don’t have roam through that horrible cold snow. Now if you would only lay out a red carpet for Willy B in his outside enclosure so his tender little feet do not have to touch that uncomfortable prickly grass it would be perfection!
I do know someone who lived in SA for years. Sent him the post in the hopes he can reach out to someone. Keeping Primarily Primates in my thoughts as they fight through this unconventional weather.

PS: My friend is reaching out to contacts in San Antonio for immediate help at Primarily Primates. Fingers crossed. It’s all so tragic. And I received an email from NAVS this morning saying they are preparing a grant for Primarily Primates TODAY if anyone wants to contribute.
I think the whole country is under snow and not moving much these days. Texas was hit really hard
and so much colder than other neighboring states. We are stuck inside the several days now with
thick and slippery ice right outside our doors. Can’t get out of the garage right now. My 2 beagle
animals are not liking the frozen back yard and no walks outside of it. Napping is a favorite
passtime right now and trying to beg for more food. Sounds like the chimps are feeling the same way.
