Sherry, this is amazing. I think you belong to an elite club of blog readers at this point! I did the same thing when I first learned of the sanctuary, but I only had a mere couple of years to backtrack through at the time, so your love of the chimpanzees and dedication to reading ALL THOSE POSTS (!!) brings a huge smile to our faces. Jamie is such a special chimpanzee person. Thank you so very much for thinking of her and helping to provide our brilliant resident woman of mystery, intrigue, and occasionally fear-inducing trickery, with the best birthday yet!
Naturally, as one of the biggest celebrations of the year here at the sanctuary, party prep is underway in the chimp house, so be sure to tune in later today to see the shenanigans!

Happy Jamieween, Dear One!
I have folders with photos of all the wonderful chimps, but Jamie has her own folder because I have so many of her. She always amazes me with her intelligence, self-determination, very own sense of style, inventiveness, authority!
My favorite day! Jamieween is better than Halloween. Can’t wait for the party celebration later today! Jamie, I love you so… may this birthday year be your finest!
Sherry Padgett you are awesome to read all these years worth of wonderful blog posts! Jamie, and all the chimps, are so lucky you found them. (I confess, I did the same thing when I first discovered the sanctuary but I didn’t have 12 years worth.) Happy Jamieween to you!

Hi Carol Ann,
Thanks for asking about Jamie’s boots. We tend to buy sizes the humans can wear since ultimately, we’re the ones she instructs to wear them. Usually 7-8ish. Sometimes she will try her boots on in her nest, but that opposable toe makes her foot wide, and she seems to prefer carrying them around, nesting with them, or having the humans wear them on walks. 🙂

When I first found the sanctuary and started looking at past blog posts Jamie was my first (and now not only, of course) love. When I saw a photo of her drawing very intently with much concentration and clear creative choice I nearly fell over. And since then seeing her in all her powerful presence I end up shaking my head more and more, in a good way. When I look at her eyes I see an old soul, wisdom and strength, and a commitment that she has to always being true to herself. While I might think of that as a total projection on my part, those qualities she has are admirable ones, even, at times, including the need for bossiness. What a role model, even in her fashion choices of scarves and boots. Thank you, Jamie, for your presence in the world.

How I wish that Jamie Chimpanzee was on the ballot for the Boss of this decrepit republic. In lieu of that, I will venture to the polls as soon as they open on this coming Tuesday morning, and, as a birthday present of sorts to her, I will try to fill my ballot by keeping in mind the very crucial needs of Jamie, her friends at the sanctuary, and her primate species around the world. Tikkun olam: To heal and renew the world.
