Pre-Lunch Naps

After cleaning the enclosures today, I set off on my journey to find the chimpanzees and ask to take photos of those who were willing. On a normal day, they would be scattered about between their different areas. However, today was a little different.
With the weather bouncing back and forth between light rain and sunshine, it has brought the perfect conditions for napping. Throughout the entire day, it wasn’t too difficult to find any of the chimpanzees. A majority of them were found on the top platform in the Greenhouse, the perfect napping spot.
Annie gave me a quick glance over when I walked up, before rolling over to continue her nap.
Jody grabbed some blankets to ensure maximum comfort for her lounging around.
Even Jamie took most of the day off to lounge around. Even the Boss needs at least one day off from monitoring those pesky humans.
Though it seemed there was nothing that could ever convince any of them to get out of their perfectly cozy spots, lunch arrived and they all sprang up. On today’s menu was carrots, onions, and tomatoes.
Jody savored every bite of her carrot.
Burrito had some minor difficulties juggling his food.
But once he got it, he was in Noms-ville.
Most of the chimpanzees are now tucked away for the night in their nests. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring. Will it be another lazy day, or one filled with adventure.

The rain worked to your advantage Chad, these are great photos. Jody had me smiling right from the start. And Mr. B with his arms full of veggies-a-skew is so Burrito! But my favorite pic of the day might be “Annie with Orange”, with the dramatic lighting she looks like a painting by an old Dutch master such as Johannes Vermeer. ; )

Just like I’m pathetic at remembering the names of people I’ve just met, I am pathetic at telling some of the chimps apart, even after years. Who is that gorgeous one at the top of the post? Is that Jody? I’m sure I got it wrong. I’ll have to tear up my membership card!

I was going to say that I learned to pick out Jody from the others because (1. no freckling, that’s a way to distinguish Annie, Fox and Jo from the other 4, and 2) of her long face…I used to say she had a long “gargoyle ” face….but the more I know of her, the sweeter that face is!
Jo truly is one of the most photogenic chimps there!
Jody’s visible tell or trademark for me was her prominent brows. They “stand out” more than the other chimps. And her twinkly eyes are set close together. From afar these traits stand out, as does seeing Jody lying down on her belly to eat. A dead giveaway! But I just love her face. 🙂
I am like you, Francoise, even after all these years of looking at these wonderful videos and photos, I too still can’t remember who is who (well maybe Foxie as she seems so thin and tiny compared to the others) and also like you I thought that first opening picture was just adorable–what a beautiful face. I just love that photo. For years now I am not able to print out things but if I could, that would definitely be a picture to keep and post on the frig.
Jo’s face at the top is that of the hostess at the party, who’s come over to see if you’re having a good time…
Nothing like a nice nap before and after eating. Do all the chimps nest in the same areas?
I’lI crack up EVERY time I see this photo of Jody…It looks like she’s intentionally posing (HAHA) for a mens’ “La~La~La” magazine, & Mr. Bubba looks like he’s at risk of falling out of that cosy little nook & landing on his noggin’… : )
