The day after the party

All of the chimpanzees slept in this morning. While it’s not unusual to come in and find a few people still in their nests, it’s a little unusual to find everyone not only still in their nests, but most of them sound asleep. Even as I began quietly unlocking doors and starting the morning task list, it was a few minutes before anyone woke up.

Foxie was curled up on the heated floor with her doll, still in dreamland, and when she eventually stirred she sat up sleepy-eyed, hair on end in excitement, and trundled over to say good-morning, eyes barely open, but full of joy. Negra even skipped the first part of breakfast and chose to take advantage of having the greenhouse all to herself to get a few more minutes of sleep. But I think we can all relate to the day after an exciting party event.

And yesterday’s birthday lady, Jody? Well, see for yourself…

Well, Jody certainly looks relaxed, bless her. Glad to know they were all comfortable this morning, wonderful beings that they are.

How yummy it must be to walk into a sleepyheaded chimp house. And is it just me or does anyone else want to press their face into Jody’s warm belly and give a kiss? Nice to know everyone enjoyed the wonderful celebration yesterday.

Lol, it could just be you, Kathleen! I’d love to see a bunch of sleepyheaded chimps, would love to get a kiss on my arm, or a hand, but don’t know that I need to kiss the belly! 😛 (Just seeing Neggie’s belly is enough for me! :D)

ME TOO…(I’m really cracking up)…HaHa…I just watched a Chimpanzee playing with her toes…It was SO sweet, & I longed to give those sweet little pink hands & feet a loving kiss… : )

        I meant to say a “baby” Chimpanzee… : )

I was wondering if I’d missed the “pink” hands and feet somewhere! That is something I’ve always wondered about….why is it that some chimps have black mouths and hands/feet, while others have “pink” mouths and hands/feet?

Unless they are bonobos, which are born with both face and appendages black, they could be Chimps of different ages. At least that’s what I’ve read.

I wondered if that was it! Cool, thanks!

Hi Linda, good question! Yes, it’s correct that infant/juvenile chimpanzees have light faces, hands and feet (along with the “tuft” of white hair on their bottoms) which darken as they age. However, it’s also common for some adult chimpanzees to have some lighter markings, freckles, etc on their faces just as we humans do.

Looks like Jody is practicing her yoga. As the song goes, May she “stay forever young.”
