Ladies of the Hill

Young’s Hill is a magical opportunity for the chimps. It is a place to feel free, it is a space they can protect, a place to escape to be alone, and a place to play and have fun with friends. And to me that is sanctuary. I have a collection of photos of all the ladies on the Hill from the past week. I can’t explain how it feels to watch these 7 chimps go out on to Young’s Hill and that it’s just part of their every day life. That for some chimps like Jamie they get to do what wild chimps would do; patrol their perimeter. If they can’t be wild I hope all chimps get this experience.

Oh Kelsi, what a meaningful post. Yes, that is sanctuary. While I envy you (deeply) for being able to observe the chimps in person everyday, just following the chimps via this blog gives me a very true sense of the magic, comfort and wildness sanctuary life offers. Thank you all for loving and caring for them and for openly sharing your perspective with all of us.
I also have to add that the photos of the back of Jody’s head made my heart melt. All the little white hairs scattered here and there, just too precious.
Yes, out of all of the gifts you’ve received, the gift of Don and (?)Dorothy, is it? has definitely been the best and most valuable gift of all! More choices, more freedom, more space, more life to live!
