I would love see these lovely chimps in person. Are there any times that the public are allowed in?

    • Avatar Diana on May 22, 2019 at 11:42 am

Hi Rob! We are not open to the public. You can learn a little more about our visitor philosophy here: https://staging.chimpsnw.org/about-us/philosophy/visiting-the-sanctuary/

Rob Bruce You know, the sanctuary may not be open, for good and important reasons, but follow the great blog every day — yes, every day — and it’s pretty darn close to being there. Help out once in a while, if you can, spread the story, children especially enjoy them, fall in love with the distinctive personalities of the chimps, and you’ll never want for feeling a part of their lives.

Thank you, Francoise! I feel like we should just use your words as an advertisement for the blog :).

This is so wonderful!! Maybe Ellen Degenres should know about this!!

    • Avatar Linda on May 22, 2019 at 12:12 pm

I’ve suggested ways to get celebrities who support animal charities involved, because I think that someone with a show viewed as widely as Ellen’s could get a lot more eyes on/money to the sanctuary. And now that i know that there are only 6 such sanctuaries in the country, I’m even more convinced.

We’ve certainly tried to get the attention of Ellen. If anyone has an “in” – let us know! 🙂

Great report by KIRO 7 News. Fabulous synopsis and an excellent way to reach some new supporters too. It appears your new rooms for the new chimps are really coming along. This is all so very exciting! I can’t help but think of the individuals awaiting their chance for a life in sanctuary — what a priceless gift. Bring Them HOME.

Yes, they are almost done!! Thank you, Kathleen!

Wonderful video on Ch 7 and am so glad you shared it with us. I hope it brings more followers and contributors. Jamie nodding his head to show approval of the boots is priceless. We’re all waiting to see the newcomers arrive. The short shot of our 7 jumping for joy at the first day outdoors was priceless.

I pray that more chimps can come home to this beautiful oasis, too feel the wind in their face and smell the fresh air. I think that Ellen should know about your wishes since she can reach a larger audience it would help getting more donations to do what is needed.

What an AWESOME news story! I love this 🙂 Congratulations on so much accomplished with the new facility. 27 YES!!! Thank you for the important work you do CSN – you make my heart sing and cry at the same time.

This is so excellent! What a wonderful piece! Really glad you were able to get such good coverage about the chimps and some of their journey. I hope it reaches the hearts of many who can see it fit to help support the sanctuary and all that it stands for!

And if all of that footage was theirs, sounds like they got to witness an Annie snake-sighting!

    • Avatar Linda on May 22, 2019 at 5:02 pm

      Or was that Missy?

      • Avatar Diana on May 28, 2019 at 9:59 am

Wow – good catch! It was Missy.

Watching this video leaves me at a loss for words. I am so glad that the Seven can forage and play about their acreage…and yet once again so sad that they had to wait most of their lives to be able to live, as chimpanzees, not as organic test tubes. I hope and pray that all incarcerated chimpanzees can be released into refuges like the CSNW.

As you learn about new chimps in need of a sanctuary I hope you post pictures and names of these prospects to the public so we can ‘adopt-a-chimp’ in our mind as we donate money to help with their care. Thank you for caring for my most favorite animal!

Awesome coverage! Crackling up for HOOT!, I expect.

Can you tell me where I can find the video of the first RELEASE of the 7 to the outside?

    • Avatar Linda on May 23, 2019 at 2:43 pm

It’s here, Francoise……..copy and paste this into your browser.

Lol, I can’t decide if Burrito’s all pilo and strutting because he’s excited about being outside again, or if he’s just happy to see more food!

And there’s Missy, slowing her gallop to a crutch-walk, just so that Annie can keep up with her (she waits for Annie, instead of running ahead). Very sweet.

What a great story! Welcome new subscribers! Follow every day and you will learn to know and love these chimpanzee people as those of us “old timers” do. Understand this is not a zoo, it is not for us, it is for these wonderful creatures who have suffered so much and are so deserving of a private, happy place to live out their lives in peace. ??

I cried (again) seeing the research footage; and then again watching the clips of the 7 getting out on Young’s Hill for the first time. Thank you for sharing this on the blog. I was discouraged to hear Steve Raibel talk about Jamie doning a cowboy hat – but that just illustrates that education about chimp, chimps in entertainment, etc. is still critical. Thank you to the staff and volunteers at SCNW for ALl that you do.

    • Avatar Linda on May 23, 2019 at 2:33 pm

Yeah, but you know, Jordan? It crossed my mind that I should ask if she’s ever worn one (by choice, of course)…….because she’s more human-oriented than the others, and lately, the pictures that she likes in the books or catalogs are the pictures of the people actually wearing the boots…….so I wondered if, given a hat, she’d like to wear it, too. I would never suggest they ask her to, just give her to option.

      • Avatar Diana on May 28, 2019 at 10:02 am

Jamie has worn hats on occasion, but seems to prefer beanies/knit caps to cowboy hats.

That was supposed to say ALL, not ALI…..sorry. 🙂
