When presented with an edible landscape, what is one to do?

Perhaps first, a moment of reflection:

And then a careful up-close contemplation:

Missy’s little shape is the best sight. She is so fabulously adorable. It is always fun to see her captured in a quiet moment, thanks Diana these photos are wonderful.

Diana, since I’m still kind of new to the blog, what’s different about Miss Miisy’s neck?

Hi Linda! Missy does have a shorter neck than everyone else. In fact, we suggest looking for that feature to help people who are just learning to identify the chimpanzees. https://staging.chimpsnw.org/2013/04/missy-3/

Thanks, Diana. Any idea what causes it? I don’t recall ever seeing that in a chimp before.
Makes sense that she’s athletic. With that neck, she looks like the bodybuilders in the gym! 😀
I’m also happy that she has plenty of room to tear things up with all of her extra energy.

You’re welcome, Linda – I don’t think there’s anything unusual about her lack of a neck, it’s just a prominent feature that adds up to being uniquely Missy! ? She does look a bit like a body builder, which is fitting!

Do female chimpanzee have menstrual cycles? Was Missy menstruating on the beautiful day?

They do, yes. Missy, however, had a hysterectomy before coming to the sanctuary when a benign tumor was found on a physical exam.
