In case you haven’t heard, yesterday’s Giving Day for Apes was nothing short of a success! Check out the above video for a thank you from the Queen herself.
In other news, today after lunch, wadging paper primate chow bags seemed like top priority for Annie, Jody and Foxie. Jody and Annie had to take theirs to go so they could go spy on a big yellow construction vehicle that was backing up to the chimp house. Every day we get to see so much progress on our new building. It’s truly an exhilarating experience to be a part of!

I love that–so they can come home! Right now I’m just a po’ student and have nothing to contribute except my talent. I’m pleased to announce I just finished my first commission tonight and will now be able to concentrate more on my Negra painting, so please watch for updates.

I noticed something in Negra in this video, though. Is she pigeon-toed? I know because they’re arboreal animals that their feet aren’t perfectly flat on the ground like humans, so they can grip the trunks of trees and it helps them climb, but they’re not as much that way as an orangutan. You can REALLY see that in their feet, which makes more sense since they spend more of their time in the canopy.
But does Negra have special trouble walking?
Again, so happy to hear of the wonderful totals you guys brought in. I always get sad when I can’t help, but one day!

Maybe…..you’re right, that right foot turns in an awful lot, more than the left one. She did hurt a toe a while back, right? Was it on that foot? Well, she’s getting up there in age, and spending your whole life sitting can mess with your hips, and the hip bone’s connected to the thigh bone, etc. Maybe that explains in part why she’s not running around and climbing as much as the rest of them. 🙁

Negra does walk a bit differently, and has so since we’ve known her. Luckily she doesn’t seem to be in any pain from it.
