Lazy play for a lazy day

Missy and Negra didn’t feel the need to release much energy in this morning’s play bout. Notice how it devolves slowly into a grooming session. Negra approves of all interactions where she gets to stay in bed!

That is so sweet the way Negra gently held on to Missy…clearly wanting her to stay. They are so relaxed and comfortable. Do you keep the door open to the outdoors all day or just at certain times? I wouldn’t want to go out there either if I was Negra, if it was a nice toasty 70 degrees in my house. 🙂

Hi Chris, the chimps have access to the covered outdoor area we call the greenhouse all day (unless we are in cleaning it), but we do close off the two acre outdoor enclosure at night for safety.

Negra is the Queen, she doesn’t even lift her head up from her cozy warm nest. And Missy is so gentle with her. I felt as if Negra was saying “Don’t go Missy” as she grasped Missy’s hand and ankle. Oh so sweet.

I just love seeing the warm loving interaction among the chimps.

Thanks Anna…I did know that you close up the outdoor area at night but wasn’t sure if you kept it open all during the day! 🙂 One more question…how do you keep the temps in the chimp house regulated at 70 with doors open to the outside? Chimp flap doors? LOL

In addition to the overhead heater, the cement floors in the chimp house are also heated, so it’s always nice and toasty. At night we keep one door that leads to the greenhouse closed and the other is open so it’s not drafty.
