Cooler temperatures at the sanctuary mean more frequent (and fast paced) walks on Young’s Hill!

I could watch these videos all day. I’m so enamored with these chimps and it does my heart big to know how much they’re loved and taken care of.

What is the distance around the perimeter of the fence? Looks everyone gets their exercise. Love the wonderful chimps and the amazing caregivers.

Hi Barbara – It’s a little under a quarter mile each lap, with a 70-foot gain in elevation to the top of the hill. I think that Jamie might be the most physically fit chimpanzee in North America, given her habit of doing up to 15 of these laps each day.

Thank you for giving them Young’s Hill, it is such beautiful, natural space and oh, those amazing views! What a beautiful day! To those who question what a Sanctuary is, this is a perfect example in every way! Nothing over head but sky, friends to run with and friends to keep an eye on you, protective barriers that blend into the scenery, caregivers (always on the other side of the protective fencing ????) to walk and run with, freedom to do as you please — HOME.

Jody keeps peeking up and over, who is she see keeping an eye on in the distance, I can see a wee black spec down by the chimp house. Seems sweet, the way she keeps checking them out. FAMILY.

Love this! It’s funny how they always run/walk around the perimeter of the enclosure, so much so that they’ve worn a path! How about in the winter? Is there a path through the snow? Brrr!

In contrast to that disturbing video from PETA showing Chance the Chimpanzee being mistreated in a multitude of ways, how heartening it is to see Missy and Jamie galloping (and Jody leisurely strolling) through the tall grass of their pasture. May all chimpanzees someday be released from the bondage of human malice and stupidity.
