Negra Rejoins the Group

Negra continues her recovery today after a recent surgery on her toe. She’s perfected the art of rest and relaxation…
…which has really helped with her recovery.
So, today, after careful consideration, she was able to rejoin the rest of her chimpanzee family. She made sure to check out her favorite spots in the Playroom (a portion of the chimps’ indoor enclosure) before venturing out into the Greenhouse.
And this afternoon, she’s been going back and forth between spending time resting on the catwalk in the Playroom and on one of the ledges in the Front Rooms.

I’m so glad she’s back where she belongs.
Sweet Negra, I could look at that face all day.
Negra is enjoying quiet rest and relaxation.
Precious girl. Hoping for a quick recovery! It looks like Annie was sticking out her foot ? Sweet ladies. … Was Burrito deliberately not part of the initial reintroduction? … When one of them is removed from the group even for a short amount of time is the hierarchy challenged?
Hi Kim. Burrito was also part of the reintroduction, but I suspect he was more involved with foraging for lettuce that we had scattered throughout the Playroom prior to giving the chimps access to that area.
During recovery, we had Negra separated from the rest of the group, but all of the chimps were still able to have physical contact through the caging. Even though she was separated and it was for a short amount of time, she was still part of the group and therefore was no challenge to the hierarchy. I suspect she enjoyed the quieter time and not having to run around during Burrito’s displays.
Which Chimp did she have an altercation with?
Hi Vicki. We’re unsure of who the altercation was with. At dinner the previous night, she was fine, but Anna noticed her injury the next morning.
So happy that Negra is well enough to be back with her family. Thank you for taking such great care of all of them 🙂
It must feel so wonderful to be back in the group again and snug and cozy in your favorite place (those last 2 photos are just too precious!). I like the way Jody ‘escorted’ Negra upstairs and Annie sure gave Negra’s toe a good looking over! I am very happy to see Negra doing so well, thanks so much for keeping all of us up-to-date on her progress, and thank you for keeping her safe and well.
How curious they were about her! She probably has an altered status right now because of her absence and isolation. So interesting! They are adorable and you all are wonderful Nurse Jane Fuzzy Wuzzys!! haha That’s a reference to the Uncle Wiggley stories! Hugs to all!

How wonderful that Negra had such a peaceful, warm, and loving environment to wake up to after a surgery. A stark constrast to waking up on a cold concrete floor in a cage… Love to all.
