Fun video!
Jamie does not seemed impressed by the frolicking. Her expression is priceless.
Not sure Annie is impressed either.
But the fun must go on…..
Annie is swaying back and forth and I thought for sure she was going to dive in on the fun. Then Jamie popped up for a peek but I wasn’t sure if she was going to be the “Fun Police” and bust the scene or dive in and play, but instead she looked pretty darn non-plus over the silly play. Is Missy playing “Keep Away” with Foxie’s dolls? And I can see Jody looking on too, right?
This makes me ask, when two chimps are having such fun like Foxie and Missy, do other chimps usually join in on the fun or do they leave the two friends to play amongst themselves or wait for the two chimps to begin a chase so others can join in? Are there “rules” to playing? Do the others just enjoy being close to the action?

As for your other questions, it depends on the individuals involved. For a long time Annie was too anxious to join in to anyone else’s play session, so she would just sit to the side. These days, she’s much more confident about joining the fun when she wants to. And I think in the case of the play session in this video, Jamie was considering whether to act as “party police”. 😉 She may have climbed up on the bench to monitor the situation closely and put a stop to things if folks were having too much fun.
I like the pause in the video and the identification of a chimp smile. A great method to teach us more about chimp behavior, expressions, and so on. Thanks for the fun!
