…. have… to… get …. this…. just …. right……..
That was great! A lot of work to get it just right … ????. Really enjoyed that, thank you.
I am absolutely captivated by captive chimps that know how to nest like wild chimps.
Question about the nests: Does she tire of them and tear them apart , or is that part of the cleanup process for the human crew? Do chimps in the wild reuse their nests or make new ones every day?
Usually when the chimpanzees abandon their nests they leave them in one piece, but sometimes they take the blankets with them when they move and reconstruct the nest in another area. We do find lots of beautiful nests when we enter the enclosures to clean each day. Here’s a blog post from a couple of years ago with some photos of some of Jamie’s greatest hits: https://staging.chimpsnw.org/2012/01/the-many-nests-of-jamie-chimpanzee/
Chimps in the wild have been known to re-use nests on occasion, but the majority of the time they build a new one each night.
If wanting to hug her is wrong, I don’t wanna be right. Love these beings.
How long did it take for Missy to get her nest “juts right”? I mean just look at that precious little intent face! And I am crazy about the Dia de los Muertos fabric choice she is using too!
That was a great scroll through those photos, thanks Elizabeth.
I loved watching Missy make her nest. She is so focused. I can just picture her enjoying it when she is completely satisfied. Thank you for the great photos.
