Another beautiful day

Today was yet another unseasonably warm day, and the chimps enjoyed another lunch forage on the hill.

Once they had found all the food, Missy and Jody went on a mission to find ice in the tire swings. Despite the warm weather, temperatures have been dropping to just below freezing overnight, leaving icy treats all over the hill in the morning.

Jody was the big winner.

Missy didn’t seem to mind too much – she had better things to do.

Later, part of the group spent time at the top of Young’s Hill, soaking in the sun and enjoying the view of the neighbor’s farm, the train tracks, and the river.

Beautiful view. How fortunate they are to have these opportunities.

I realized today would have been Dian Fossey’s 82nd birthday. I find I’m motivated to mention her here because her passion to save gorillas from being hunted is not unlike your passion to save chimpanzees from any further abuse at human hands.

Seeing those chimps in the sun, smiling, is nice way to say Thank You to those of you who give your lives in the service of primates.

I think they’re ALL winners since they can enjoy being out on Young’s Hill.

With the train tracks there, is it still active? and if it is, does the noise scare the chimps?

Yes, the freight trains go by at least a few times a day. It’s not very noisy…just sort of a low rumble. Actually, Negra loves watching the train go by. When she hears it coming, she will rush to the greenhouse or the bottom of Young’s Hill for a better view.
