Young at Heart

Missy does everything with a little extra flair. This morning, instead of walking across the bridge, she walked the tightrope.
And while Jamie and I took a stroll around the hill, Missy spun herself in circles on the rope swing.
When she finally decided to catch up to us, she launched herself forward on the swing. Because walking is boring.
Later, she tried to act her age, but she wasn’t fooling anyone.

Miss Missy certainly is the poster child for Sanctuary Chimps living life on their terms, Young’s Hill continues to give and give and give.
What fun! Looking at the photo’s of Miss Missy brought joy to my heart, and a big smile on my face. She looks like she is having a blast. Great, crystal clear photos. Love the last photo of Missy.
J.B. > does Jamie initiate the walks, or is it a two way adventure taken on by both caregiver and Jamie? Is Jamie the only one that wants to walk the perimeter of Youngs Hill?
Jamie initiates the walks and at this point she’s the only one to do so. Other chimps will join her on occasion after she initiates. I think she just really enjoys being outside and so she asks us to go with her if no one else is out there. I think she also likes having a mission or purpose, rather than just hanging around outside.
None of the chimps seem to like being outside alone or in a small group for too long. Foxie will often stomp through the greenhouse as a way to get her friends to join her on a trip outside. And Burrito often sits by the door, waiting for someone to go out so that he can follow behind them. They are all getting so much more confident on the hill, but we still have a long way to go before they all make nests and stay out there all day. If they get to that point, great. If not, that’s OK too because at least they have the option. But we all get so excited with each step forward that they take.
……and this is why I LOVE Missy so much! Although I know I never could, I seriously want to squeeze her like I do my kitties. 🙂
