“My” cozy nest

Annie made a cozy nest this morning in the greenhouse. She was so content there, she had no interest in going out on the hill while other chimps were headed out. Instead, she watched them explore from the comfort of her bed.

But after she abandoned her nest, Jamie decided it was the perfect place to take a nap.

    Is she not feeling well?

Annie seems to be feeling just fine. I think she was just enjoying her comfy nest. 🙂

Awhhh! I wish Annie would come to my house and make a warm fuzzy nest for me to curl up in and take a nap. I’ve been home sick for two days and could really use a warm fuzzy nest 🙂

Thanks for sharing these adorable pictures, Jackie! Priceless!!

So cute. How could they have lived for so long without such comforts. Thank you for all you do for these beautiful souls.

haha Who can resist such a cozy-looking nest, especially when you didn’t have to put forth any effort to make it. This reminds me of one of the scenes in the Disney Nature film “Chimpanzee” when Oscar leaves his rock (tool) and another chimp steals it. I’ve noticed the Cle Elum Seven do this frequently with nests… is this just a normal chimp behavior? Do they ever get mad if someone takes their nest or their toy or whatever? Or does it depend on who is doing the stealing?

Stealing is definitely a normal part of chimp culture. The more dominant chimp can usually get away with stealing whatever they want, though depending on what the object stolen was, it does sometimes make the other chimp upset. But it’s politics, so the smartest thing to do is to just let them have it. I’ve never seen anyone get upset when someone steals their nest, most likely because they can just go make a new one or wait it out and they’ll get it back. But a highly prized fruit or, in the case of the Cle Elum Seven, a night bag or a troll, could be a much bigger deal. Foxie is our resident peacekeeper, so she rarely gets angry when someone steals from her, but she will sometimes whimper or beg to the person who has done the stealing (usually Jamie, in her case).

The last two photos would make an excellent sanctuary promotional piece: away from invasive, painful, and stressful medical research, sanctuaries gives chimps the opportunity to finally build nests out of soft, clean, comfortable blankets (Jamie eyes open) and be relaxed and content enough to enjoy a quiet nap (Jamie eyes closed)… I love the fact that the blanket she has over her has hearts all over it.

Once again, precious photos and a lovely start to my Friday.

The Nests that the Cle Elum Seven build are WORTHY of,
The Former Bio Med Research Chimpanzees
    NestBuilding Awards ..
Im serious, these gals build the mos telaboratge nests, of many colors,
ever so vivid, ever so soft, cozy and just overall beautiful,,,
it can only mean one thing, they are THRIVING, they are HAPPY< they are now nest savy,, and they obviously put thought, planning and timing in to them all,
they know exatcly which blanket to put where,,
how and when to do them,, they all have thier own styles of building, and they use the same blankets in the same cubby holes, its just so lovely to see these nests, We really must think about a contest,, for a global fundraiser, the winner receives the prize of monies and nesting materials, fleece blankts, sheets, pillows, etc.
