Annie spent some time grooming Missy in the greenhouse this morning:
Grooming eventually turned into some mellow, silly play. My favorite thing about this video is that by looking at Missy’s serious face, you’d never know she was playing.

the only time i’ve ever that many appendages in someone’s mouth was at the dentist … and it was my mouth …
There’s nothing better than putting your foot into one of your BFF’s mouth!! Those silly girls!!
One of my students brought a Dora that talks for foxie today. Will the talking be a problem?
Yup … No wires, No batteries, No ‘fittings’ for batteries, No beans, No long wires to make body and/or appendages straight, No soft plastic bits (ridgid plastic only). I am a supporter like you, have sent a lot of toys and had a lot toys ‘ixnayed’ for offending things within the toy (i.e., wires, batteries, etc.) Seems our beloved chimpsters are not only very clever they are also super strong and will demolish an item to get to the mystery bits. Have I missed anything caregivers?
Hi, Kerri- Leslie is right. For the chimps’ safety, we don’t give them batteries or even battery-operated toys with the batteries removed, since these usually have lots of small metal parts. I’ve been seeing some white teeth in those smiles lately – did they get their teeth cleaned? How doe that work? It’s got to be a tough exercise but wonderful to see them sporting some clean smiles.
The chimpanzees haven’t had their teeth cleaned while they’ve been at CSNW. That would require sedation, which is a pretty big ordeal. On occasion, we’ve offered them toothbrushes with a small amount of toothpaste, but they tend to be more interested in sucking the toothpaste off the bristles than in brushing their teeth. 🙂
I know I saw Missy almost laughing; it was that twig she kept in her mouth that kept from a real play face.
