Jody’s face

Sometimes Jody can be a tough gal to please. She will often communicate her displeasure with us by spitting mouthfuls of water in our faces or trying to poke us while we’re serving the chimps breakfast. (All of that is normal chimpanzee behavior and we never discourage it. We always want her and the other chimps to be free to express their chimpanzee-ness.)
There’s something about Jody’s face that I find so endearing, though. Even when she’s upset with me and doing her best to make my job as hard as possible, I can’t help but melt a little when I look at it.

You can definitely see the mischief in her facial expressions. She must know she causes trouble and looks completely content with that fact. 🙂
Even though I know her antics must be a challenge, I can’t help but love the playful nature of it.
I really like her face too, Elizabeth. There is a little kink to the line of her mouth that just says “Jody”
i see the determination in her face, the very determination that no doubt got her through many difficult years. i applaud all of you for letting them … encouraging them … to be the chimps they are.
Elizabeth I always think of those FULL mouth spits as “buckets of love”…..I’m just sure that is what she is thinking!

Thats my girl Jody. Jody is beautiful,, look at that face. True, ther eis something about Jody that is so endearing. I only wish that I too could serve her and please her and even accept her loving moutfulls of water being spat on to my face. She looks so good now, I viewed the arrival pics of all the chimps , they are all unrecognizable.. and a picture of health. Thank You Elizabeth for such lovely pics of Jody.
Hopefully this doesn’t offend anyone, but Jody really reminds me of my grandmother in these pictures. There seems to be a million thoughts and a million years of experiences in those eyes. What a wonder it would be to know what she was thinking about.
jen, What a wonderful thought. I would be honored if someone saw me in any qualities of the chimps. I agree with you about the look of a million thoughts and experiences in those eyes. They are deep pools that we can only wonder about and can be grateful that they teach us what they do just by being themselves.
The last photo reminds me of the line from the movie Elf. I changed the word elf to chimp. We’re chimps with an Attitude!!! Thanks Elizabeth. Jody is so beautiful!
She may spit and poke on some days but on other days she is most loving, using those lips to kiss and those fingers to groom.
