Today J.B., Colin, and Noah worked on some Young’s Hill trench-digging around the entire perimeter. Here’s J.B. using what I have been calling “the crazy chainsaw for the ground” machine (though it’s actually called a ditch witch).

Trench-digging is also do-able with a pick ax and shovel, though I imagine it’s pretty hard work! Here’s Colin and Noah workin’ hard:

… and hardly workin’

oooooh … ditchwitches!! COOL toys! 🙂 (And the helpers look pretty cool, too — LOL!)

    What are the trenches for?

The trenches are for a rattlesnake fence – a 3′ tall galvanized hardware cloth fence that is buried 6″ in the ground to deter snakes. It will surround all of Young’s Hill and the existing facility.

[[gulp!}} It’s a good thing you didn’t tell me there are rattlesnakes up on that hill … I’m a skeered of ’em! 🙂

I was wondering how you were going to deter those critters from enjoying the Hill. Nice work!!!
