Garden enrichment

Jackie has been working pretty diligently on the best enrichment of all — the garden. It’s really great for the chimps to watch the plants grow, see us harvest their food, and then of course get to enjoy the delicious fresh produce! I have been helping her, too. Here’s us sifting the compost which we use as a growing medium for the plants. Just like Jackie said the other day, recycling at it’s finest!
Here is the view of the garden from the south side of the chimp house:
And here are some of our fruits and veggies that are doing great! Broccoli, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and strawberries.
The chimps particularly like the fresh strawberries!

Absolutely nothing tastes better than fresh picked fruit and veggies in the summer. I food grunt and squeak for them too!
Lovely garden–not only do the 7 get to enjoy the fruits of your labor but they can watch you at work!!!

The garden looks beautiful and healthy, do the chimps still point out what they’d like you to harvest for them? It’s so nice to see a beautifully green garden.
I work for the county extension office, in Tyler, and because we’ve been in a drought for the last few years our plants and trees are taking a beating. The drought has been going on for so long it’s now affecting 100-200 year old trees. But with hard work and diligence gardens do pay off, for i.e., our East Texas Food Bank’s community garden produced 30,000 pounds of produce this year. Also, because of the economy more people are planting gardens and getting back into canning.
Your garden is a fantastic idea and you should be proud of what you’ve accomplished. Now if we can keep the birds from getting to your cherry tree and maybe getting some hay from your pastures.
