A relaxing day for Negra

Today was sunny and beautiful, so the greenhouse was a prime spot for everyone, especially Negra.
You may have heard us talk about Negra’s spot in the outdoor area, which is the southern most end of the deck. The sun beats in the greenhouse in that spot so it’s almost always a warm and inviting place to nap.
Negra spent almost the whole day relaxing there…. and today, no blankets were necessary!
10:00am-
(I think the next one is my favorite. I love the pointed toe!)
2:00pm- Yep. Same place… only this time, she looked like she was practicing her “happy baby” yoga pose:
She finally came inside to her other favorite spot and curled up with a soft yellow blanket:

Oh boy, I do love to see Negra in the greenhouse just lounging and being a happy chimp. After what she has been though in her life it is good to know she can just be lazy and cozy. Thank you to all of the supporters for making this a reality for Negra.

Oh I love her she is such a beautiful chimp. Hugs to Negra. Wonderful photos. thank you . The one with the yellow blanket just makes her seem so human.
Negra has come such a long way in her short life at CSNW, all because of the staff and caregivers. It just goes to show you that love can do amazing things to inside and out. If I remember correctly, Negra was being studied with post-traumatic stress symptoms and has been written up, you had some visitors and they were observing her. How do they think she’s come along since they last saw her? Just from the pictures, video and your notes I think she’s come a long, long way.
That last picture is priceless, love it. I look at that picture and smile, I still remember the haunted look she had when she arrived at CSNW and stayed under a blanket for the longest time.
You know with the 3rd year anniversary coming up, can’t believe it, maybe if you all need something special, you could let us know and maybe start a fund drive.
Yes, Hope Ferdowsian and Debra Durham conducted the study a few months after the chimpanzees arrived here in 2008. Nothing has been published yet, but they have made mention of preliminary findings in this commentary by Debra: http://www.pcrm.org/news/commentary091030.html
A picture says a 1000 words and every one of those pictures speak epics. How content and happy Negra is and how safe she must feel too be able to relax like that! It is such a joy to see the changes the chimps have made over the last 3 years. Yes, big pant hoots to all the caregivers and supporters.

How beautiful, sad and triumphant all at the same time. Such a precious soul, who survived the horrors of lab work and can now lay peacefully in the sun, in a happy baby pose. Thank you so much for sharing and healing – they deserve so much,
