What big teeth you have

Here’s a nice example of why you would never want to be bitten by a chimpanzee. It may look like Foxie is threatening to kill her troll doll, but I simply caught her in the middle of a yawn.

This photo also shows how chimpanzees – even tiny chimpanzees like Foxie – are able to fit so much food into their mouths. I have seen Foxie stuff eighteen pieces of monkey chow into her mouth at once (each piece is about the size of a walnut in the shell).

What a great picture. Now we know why you never go into the cage with the girls and boy even though you must want to hug them sometmes because they are so cute or need assurance.

I notice her eye teeth/canine teeth have been removed, is this a common practice in labs?

Candy – Foxie’s canine teeth are still there. Chimpanzees have canine diastema, which means there’s a space between their incisors and their canines. I found this link which explains it with an illustration: http://bit.ly/dfYeDm

Hey, Diana–thanks for the information, you know I thought some of her teeth looked like canine teeth, but thought I was imagining it. Now if I read the information correctly, the space is to accommodate the the larger canines, now that makes complete sense. The chimpanzee body is an amazing thing!

It’s my troll and if anybody has any other ideas on it, you face the consequences. Great set of pearly whites Foxie.

That is quite a yawn, Foxie. Time for a snooze?

I was surprised at Chimp Eden when I saw the size of the chimps’ teeth. Even the smallest ones had big teeth and could bite an apple in half with one chomp. I wouldn’t want them anywhere near my fingers.
