A few weeks ago, before J.B.’s recent post on tool use, I took several minutes of video of Jamie attempting to get a piece of chow just out of reach in the front rooms. I condensed the video a bit to show the highlights. There are a couple of things that Jamie does in the video that just make her all-around cool as well as demonstrate the intelligence of chimpanzees.

This video shows what we all know about Jamie, is she’s a thinker. It’s the action of getting that piece of monkey chow that’s fun for her. You can see her intelligence in her face and eyes, what a truly special chimpanzee she is. Then I think of ALL those years in research, with nothing to do, what an atrocity.

I love watching Jamie when she is engrossed in a task. You can almost see the wheels turning in her head. Such a smart girl! I agree, Candy. With her intelligence she must have been so bored not being provided enrichment. Proves what a survivor she is.

The conceptualization required for this process is amazing. There is no doubt, Jamie is very smart.

Candy I think you are right, she enjoys the process of thinking a problem through more than the actual end result of retrieving the chow.
