Greenhouse update

I wish I had more progress to report, but the weather has been awful. Still, we’ve managed to start installing panels on the roof and we’ve nearly completed one wall. From the inside, the view is somewhat distorted but it lets in nearly all the light. We’re all excited for the chimps to have more space in the winter. Now all we need is some sun!

I bet you (and the chimps) can tell a difference already! Just cutting out the wind makes a HUGE difference, even with out clear skies and sun. Woohoo! This is such a great project. 🙂

By the way – I empathize with ‘the weather has been awful.’ Sheesh. Aren’t we about due for our mid-winter 2 week bout of sun?!

Good luck with trying to find some sun! I’m in Portland and the sun has come out twice in the last 4 weeks and only for very short intervals! Can’t wait our chimps to be able to spend more time outside.

Kudos to everyone who’s working on this proejct. You have great hearts!!

Can’t wait to see what our chmpanzees think of the construction. What a huge job it has been.

It looks great! Hopefully the sun will come out sun. I live in the south and even we have had unusually cold, gloomy weather. It has rained more this winter than it has in years. Even when it isn’t raining it’s cloudy and gray. I am ready for spring as I am sure the chimps are. At least the panels will keep out some of the cold. I think they will love it. Thanks for being so dedicated to their happiness!

It is good theat you can see out side through the panels. I was afraid they wouldn’t be able to. Leave it to you all to think of everything! Thanks, it looks great!!!

Will it be too hot for the chimps in the summer?

MS – The panels are removable. We plan to leave the roof and north wall panels on through the spring, to keep out the wind and rain, and then remove all of the panels for the summer. In the fall, we’ll put them back on in reverse order. There’s also a solar-powered gable fan in case it gets too warm when the panels are still on.
