Boys will be boys

The other day, Burrito and JB had a marathon play session. Tug of war is one of Burrito’s favorite games, and you’ll notice a lot of it in the video below. Of course, tug of war between chimps and humans is no real competition at all. Burrito has to play down his superior strength to accommodate our relative physical weakness (and we have to be prepared to let go at any time so we don’t get pulled into the caging!).

I have watched this several times and I”m still trying to figure out who is having more fun, chimp or human.

    I guess it really doesn’t matter…………….

One minute and 30 seconds of pure “happy” for me to watch! The head bobbing (again!), the “chimp” smile, the roll-overs on the ground, teeth locked on the cage. So great to see!

Thx JB. Pretty darn, good play period!!

You can really tell that he is just humoring JB. So neat to watch.

Cindy, you made a great observation, he really is just humoring J.B. I didn’t think anything about it, amazing.

I watched the video again and has Burrito always got something in his mouth nowadays? Does he do it at any certain time, like playing? I’ve only noticed it in the last few months.

Burrito frequently has something in his mouth, but particularly when he’s feeling playful. He’s had this habit since he arrived at the sanctuary.

I had a tug of war session with Nikky, the second ranking male, while volunteering at Chimp Eden. He used one hand and was sitting while I used two hands and was bracing myself with my feet. He almost pulled me into the fence before I had sense enough to let go and he was just humoring me too! I could have sworn I saw a smirk when he pushed the stick back through fence for round two…LOL

Oh, to have 5 more seconds of video, as Burrito went tumbling backwards when JB let go! I suspect Burrito enjoys that part, too. 🙂

I know that staff often communicate with the chimps with breathy chimp laughs. Do the chimps understand full-out human laughter?

LOL – I wish I could play tug-of-war as a part of my day at work!!

Oh JB what a fun day at work!! I loved Burrito turning upside down and letting go so he could laugh with you. I too would have loved to see 5 more seconds to see and her Burrito’s last laugh!! Thanks for making my day. I’ve been in bed all week and it was fun to finally get on the computer and see the wonderful interaction.

You had to think as Burrito was playing down to JB “Dude, you know I can take you.” Fun stuff to see!

I loved the feet on cage. It was great hearing JB talk to Burrito too and to hear their shared laughter. I think I can say “a fun time was had by all” 🙂
