Through The Looking Glass

Today was a really nice day, so I was able to give the chimps access to their Outdoor Enclosure and their Front Rooms while Elizabeth and I cleaned the Playroom. Almost everyone was playing outside at some point, and they were very interested in playing with us through the new glass window. This has been such a wonderful addition to the sanctuary. It must be SO nice to look out and not see bars! And they’ve created a very fun (and distracting!) new game to boot!

I think the chimps are enjoying, just as much as the caregivers, having the chimp-proof glass in place. Jody, acting nonchalantly, Foxie enjoying herself, but the best is the kiss with Jamie and Foxie. It brought a smile to my face and I thank you for that.

How beautiful. The new glass window not only gives the chimpanzees bar free views both in and out but it provides a venue for wonderful new games and ways to exchange affection. Absolutely lovely to see.

Oh that was so wonderful, Jackie! The bantering back and forth and yes, especially the kisses were so heartwarming! I agree, I’m not sure who was having more fun, the chimp people or the human person.!

I like what you said Margaret and Karen about “exchanging affection.” How blessed you are to be able to “exchange affection,” on a daily basis, with these 7 wonderful beings. How I envy the caregivers and volunteers.

A little cleaning, a lot of play
What a way to spend a day!

Imagine the games that will evolve with such contact available, and how much closer investigation the chimps and humans can have of each other! A great way to bring out personalities even more. The window is truly literal and figurative!!!

Watch out for that double-footed, window slam, whammy!!

Oh, the kisses at the end……………………so great!!

What a great way to start my day at the office. I’d rather daydream I was at CSNW any day!!

I would give just about anything for a chimp kiss through glass! How sweet! The glass is proving to be a wonderful addition to the chimps enrichment. Thank you so much for sharing the fun.

I have been watching these videos for awhile now and today just brought tears to my eyes. This and Foxie Snuggles up are just priceless. The caregivers have my dream job. Thank you for posting these pictures and videos for us.

Kisses! That’s so sweet. Do the chimps expression of affection (kisses) mean the same sort of thing as humans? If they can’t actually groom you, is a kiss through the glass just as affectionate?

How moving…. These Chimps are in Paradise. Thanks to the staff and volunteers. The Cle Elum 7 sure do love you.

I too was brought to tears with the kiss! after a week of writing so many letters for support of HR 1326 The Great Ape Protection Act
I sooooooooo needed to see some released and healing chimps. Thank you for all you do.

Please everyone sign and urge (or thank) your legislators to co sponsor the bill so that other chimps can also have relief from long-time suffering like these guys!
