It’s a busy busy day here – ABC Nightly News is filming for a story that should air soon. We’ll keep everyone posted on when! Perhaps the story will include shots of our new hammock – here’s a sneak peak of Jamie inspecting (and making use of!) it!

This picture is super! It sure would be fun if they all got in it and you were able to snag a picture! Ahhh nice dream.
That is so cool to hear about ABC. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

wow – that is sooooo great about the nightly news filming – more people to be aware of whats going on and how these chimps got here, their former lives, etc… great news! this will generate interest and hoping that more people get involved! every little bit helps! that’s so great you guys!

Jamie looks like she digs the hammock, that’ll be some nice resting time high up in the air, just the way some chimps like it!
the hammocks look like they can fit everybody in it – yeah Jeani, that would be an amazing pic if it happened!

what a great post (they’re all great posts, thanks!)

yeah Amy, I love how they take advantage of & utilize every inch of their surroundings .. that’s probably about two inches (?) she’s propped herself on .. she’s very resourceful!

Jamie’s hair looks good in these pics too – Go Jamie!

Is it my emagination or does Jamie seem to be the first to try most things out? I have been wondering what the hammocks would look like.

  7. Avatar Audrey on September 17, 2008 at 5:53 pm

Wow!!! The hammocks are just FANTASTIC!!! Another activity choice for the Cle Elum Seven, thanks to those wonderful Boy Scouts!!! They did a GREAT JOB!!!

I am so excited to see the story on ABC Nightly News!! Like Dee said, the more people that hear the story of the sanctuary, the more involvement you will have! It is a GREAT story….how Keith read the article in Discover magazine, & now here you are!! (well, I know there was MUCH more to it than that, but you know what I mean). 🙂 Everyone who sees that story on ABC Nightly News will fall in love with our beautiful chimps just like we have!

All of my letters were returned with the exception of one I sent to Hormel corporate on the abuse on the Peta undercover video, I thought I would share the letter I received back today from Hormel:

    September 17, 2008

    Mrs Campbell,

We find the images in the PETA video appalling and they are inconsistent with our standards and industry standards for animal handling.

Even though the abuse on the video occurred several weeks before our supplier purchased the farm, it depicted practices that are completely unacceptable.

We expect all current suppliers to adhere to the proper animal handling standards from day one and continue to do so throughout our relationship. We are working with our supplier to ensure this activity is no longer taking place, and they are investigating this matter and will take appropriate disciplinary actions, including terminating employees. Underscoring our company’s zero tolerance policy, we have in the past terminated employees, truckers and contracts with producers when animal welfare issues have arisen.

Animal welfare and animal husbandry have always been top priority at Hormel Foods. This is simply about treating animals humanely because it’s the right thing to do. We take our zero tolerance policy for the inhumane treatment of animals very seriously and have implemented many standards outlined in our responsibility report : http://www.hormelfoods.com/responsibility/process/animalWelfare.aspx.

We love it! There is our Jamie checking it out first! Isn’t it great the way we are all getting to know the personalities? The socuts did a great job on the hammocks! Just what we have been saying recently, if everyone does what they can a LOT gets done and chimpanzees are happy!

Shelly K ~ if Hormel were serious about it, they’d participate in the Certified Humane program. My two cents.

That was Shelly K to Shelly C…….AND apparently the Shelly from Hormel! Didn’t know there were so many Shelly’s out there

This as nothing to do with anything anyone is talking about, but if you’d like a smile go and take a look at baby Bobby Stryker at the Center for Great Apes. When the chimps were pulling the trolls’ hair out and I said that I thought they may be trying to groom them, this is who I was thinking of, little baby Stryker.
