awww, that was so cute to watch… was that Jamie pulling Foxie around by the finger? I’m new to this blog and the chimps so I don’t always know who is who.

LOL, I LOVE that last shot! The box, the pirouettes…..funny chimp girls. Foxie was feeling her chimp oats today. 🙂

Oh that Foxie! Always one for play. I just love the somersault to start it off and then the twirl at the end. Thanks JB.

Making up for lost time when they couldn’t move around much, let alone play. It’s wonderful to see them having fun and laughing.
I do have a few questions that are off topic of the video though. I noticed Jamie is in estrus. Does Burrito ever mate with the girls? Also, has he had a vasectomy or are the girls on birth control? These may have been asked before and I apologize if they have answered. I will blame on it memory loss with age. 😉

We saw one attempt at mating early on between Jamie and Burrito, but nothing since then. Sadly, many captive chimpanzees are raised in such unnatural conditions that their normal social and sexual development is stunted. Burrito definitely responds to changes in the girls’ cycles, but he does not engage in copulatory behavior.

Burrito had a vasectomy before coming to the sanctuary.

Thank you, J.B. It makes perfect sense that their sexual development would be as stunted as their social development. It is sad indeed.
