Fence posts and other excitement on the hill

Thanks to a great volunteer crew yesterday, all but 15 of the remaining posts on Young’s Hill are in place!
This was not easy work because we had some rain over the last few weeks which filled up the holes, so yesterday’s volunteers, Kim S., Rita, Kim C., Donna, Kelly, and Bill, were not afraid to get dirty. I asked Kim S. how she managed to get dirt on her shoulders and found out it was because she was head-first in the 4-foot holes bailing water out.
Speaking of fence posts, there are only 26 posts left to “adopt” – check out all of the wonderful fence post plaque inscriptions on our 3rd Anniversary Fundraising page. Thanks to everyone who has joined in on this fundraising campaign!
In other really exciting news, the bamboo on the hill is shooting!!
I promised J.B. I would help him set the remaining 15 posts today, so I had better get out there, but here are some photos I took last night on hill:

I’m so happy I could just cry! Thank you so much for all your hard work & thanks to everyone that adopted a post too!
I was a little worried about the “Boo” as it was a vary hard winter. We actually had two winters, one early with a good snow fall that helps protect the plants, then some good weather that melted most of the snow and then we had a very hard freeze. With little to no insulation I was afraid the “Boo” had been killed but in the last week with some warm weather it has started to sprout and grow. I’m so happy the “Boo” is getting ready for the CE7 to enjoy.

On our way to my granddaughter’s graduation from CWSU we stopped by the sanctuary so my daughter (volunteer Julie Harding) could drop off supplies. I stepped out of the car and stood in awe looking at Young’s Hill. I was amazed at the vastness, the fence post all in place and the climbing structure. J.B. came out and kindly explained the layout. I voiced my thoughts, would the chimps ever want to go back inside and he laughed and said “Maybe not”. What a wonderful, wonderful home this is going to be for our Lucky Seven and I say THANK YOU to Keith for donating the land and founding the sanctuary and to the staff, caregivers and supporters for all they do to expand the facility and keep it a happy place.
