Burrito being playful

I have pretty much the best job in the world. Thanks to stellar volunteers Jessica and Lynn, I was able to spend some time with Burrito this morning. He was in a particularly silly mood.

It’s easy to forget everything that he’s been through when he’s so playful. Chimpanzees have very good memories, but I think they are better at living in the moment than most humans. And Burrito is definitely better at remaining childlike.

Silly Burrito!! It’s great to see him so in touch with his inner chimp child. All that laughing and smiling! It’s so wonderful to see him relishing his time with you Diana and having so much fun. I agree, the chimps are amazing role models for us all. I don’t think I could have come through what they have nearly as well. Every day I am thankful that they are safe and cared for now.

He sure figured out a lot of ways to wrap himself in that belt thing. Very inventive.

He looks so young! And he’s so animated! Diana — you must bring out the kid in him. 😉

I think that is what I must look like at school when the girls have a piece of string and want to make a cats cradle !!!! Another great video. Thanks Diana

I really enjoy watching these great videos. Can’t wait until their outdoor area is completed. Where can I send a troll doll and what other entertainment can one send for these wonderful beings?
Do they enjoy watching videos? Have they ever watched videos of chimps in the wild?

      Hi Leilani,

      You can send packages to:
      Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest
      PO Box 952
      Cle Elum, WA 98922

The chimps do enjoy watching videos. A great supporter donated a television with a dvd player two years ago. Burrito’s favorite dvds are those with chimps in the wild. Foxie tends to spit water at the television.

Here’s a early clip of them watching a dvd: https://staging.chimpsnw.org/2008/12/watching-a-movie-while-eating-snow/

lovely footage ! i adore the the goofy happy face and happy panting , such a content lad , how many ways to twist and knot that scarf ! xxx

I loved when Burrito grabbed the scarf with his two feet. Mr. B’s really progressed, in the playing department, since his arrival at CSNW.

As I was watching this video, I thought about the chimps who play chase with their caregivers and its usually the length of the outdoors area. What are you going to do when Young’s Hill is completed and they can run in a much bigger area and up and down on the hill, maybe furnish a portable oxygen tank? It will be great training for a marathon.

Maybe oxygen spray mists along the way! LOL Good one Candy!

I loved seeing this video Diana. Burrito was a hoot in all the ways he could come up with trying to tie himself up in the scarf while trying to get it away from you. Too funny!!! These are the videos where I turn on the volume at full blast and the cats think I am crazy!!

and what’s so funny, too, is how proud of his different configurations he is – he comes up with a new twisty way to entangle himself and there’s this little moment where you can almost here him go “HA!” -very very sweet. makes me happy to see him so happy! thanks, D!
