Burrito has more energy than I. I’m warn out just watching him.

Whew! The caregivers sure get their steps in! Lol A couple of questions please, do the chimps know each caregiver and do they show any preference, and do the chimps look you in the eyes.

Yes, the chimps definitely know each caregiver and some show more preference than others. Burrito is playful with everyone, but especially so with certain caregivers. All of the chimps will make eye contact, though that varies between chimps. Honey B stares deeply into our souls while her mom Missy often looks in a different direction when face to face with humans.

Lol, like “the Dr will see you now”….the best medicine, indeed, Diana! He certainly does keep you going!
I feel bad for French Dora, who now has a head full of Burrito slobber!
It’s good to see that he “ditched ” you to go outside on patrol with the girls…for a while there, it seemed like he was left behind a lot.

Where do I sign up to be trained for the position of Burrito Playgiver! He is ridiculously funny and I know he knows it. Thanks for brightening my rainy day!

This makes me recall a past post of yours or J.B.’s where you mentioned what crazy job you had. Crazy wonderful.

Always glad to brighten your day! Crazy wonderful is right.

Of course we’d all prefer no chimpanzee captivity. At all, ever. But when I see the inside upper lofts you built with all the windows and skylights, I think what a wonderful, wonderful job you have done to give them a beautiful, safe, sunlit home. Big kudos to all the designers and planners (aka J.B., I expect, with many valuable contributions). And, oh yeah, Burrito is exhausting!!! You could sell work-out classes.

As I watched this wonderful video of him racing about I recalled a very sad photo which I will never forget of Diana sitting on the floor looking so exhausted and WORRIED with him on the other side of the enclosure after his surgery a while back . I bet she (you) never thought you’d see this 37 yr old with a heart condition behaving like that ever again. Great view in this video of the enclosure too.

That is a good, if sobering, point. I was worried about what the near future held for Burrito. Thus, this video is such pure delight to watch.

You are right, Elaine! In that moment, I would not have predicted Burrito would come out on the other side even more playful and energetic than he was before, or even if he would come out on the other side at all. You just really never know. He’s an inspiration!

Oh, and my! This video reminds me of my first on-line introduction to Burrito and the CSNW. Mr. B was playing a rousing game of tug-of-war and up-high, down-low with one of his human buddies (Lizz, I think), a wooden block in his mouth and laughing up a storm. I fell in love with him! Young’s Hill, Washington is easily the most (and, suite possibly, only) sane location in these (not-especially) United States at the present time.

The intelligence & resilience of Chimpanzees’ never ceases to amaze me…Burrito, & the other dear chimps frequently remind me of one of my favorite quotes…

“It’s never too late to be who you might have been.”
