First Patrol

We haven’t had the drone out in a while so this morning I thought I’d take the opportunity to film the chimps on their post-breakfast patrol. Counterclockwise patrols are actually pretty rare for this group, but I think some early morning drama had Jamie and the gang itching to check on their neighbors.

Wow, that was so cool, an eagle’s eye view.
    Thank you 🙂

WOW! I will never get over what a beautiful piece of property the sanctuary is situated on. WOW. Enjoyed the Birdseye view, all that glorious open space makes the chimps look so small.

I watched the video before I read your post and as soon as I saw the chimps turn right to walk counterclockwise I smiled thinking “What’s up with that?” I was wondering if this whole Counterclockwise thingy was now the new norm. I should have known the neighbors had something to do with it. Maybe we should nickname Jamie “Gladys Kravitz”.

Lol, Kathleen, as soon as I saw counter clockwise, I thought of you!

      I love the “Mrs Kravitz”!

It truly is a glorious, huge space…was that Missy running a marathon out front?

They move so fast! Beautiful to see them and all the space that is theirs.

Are the counter clockwise patrols just random behavior or is there a theory behind this?

Hi KC: Using the clock face analogy, the neighboring chimps would be visible from the 5 o’clock position, so I think that’s why they headed that way first. As for why they usually go clockwise, I would attribute it to the fact that the boss, Jamie, simply has some tendencies towards rituals and patterns and she usually leads the way.

I know I’m looking at this a bit late but it was amazing. I had never seen a shot of the sanctuary
and so amazing to see the chimps out and about. What a wonderful video seeing the chimps free
to be and free to choose what they want to do. Thank you sooo much. It put a
    huge smile on my face.
