Negra savors her breakfast

Breakfast (and all the fruit that comes with it) is the most exciting meal of the day at the sanctuary. Make sure to turn your volume up to hear some serious orange slice slurping (you can also catch Jody eating in the background).

I always thought the chimps enjoy dinner the most, since it always comes accompanied with two night bags.

Either way, the videos of those events are never long enough. My idea is to produce a ChimpSanctuaryNW app in which all you have are videos of them eating, slurping, and food-squeaking, ON LOOP! I have a feeling people would even pay for that. 😉

Now that the work on my Christmas card is finished, I can resume work on my Negra portrait. If it’s okay with you guys, since it will be coming to you once it’s finished, I’ll post here when I’ve made a page update with progress, since I know there are some that read the blog that also follow mine because of her.

We finally got our first snow today, so I’m going to go and enjoy.

    Cheers.

I would pay cash money to watch a tape loop of the Cle Elum Seven/Eleven!

Quick question: do you guys have any bird feeders up for them to enjoy? I ask because due to our snow I’ve had to fill mine three times today alone. That got me wondering if bird-watching is something the chimps might enjoy. I know you grow sunflowers and vegetable gardens for them, but don’t know if bird-watching is something chimps in general enjoy.

    Thanks.

They see a lot of birds around for sure. I think we would want to avoid encouraging them to be around though, because any encounters the chimps do have with birds don’t often end very happily for the bird.

        Hi, Anna,

        Thanks for replying.

I wasn’t aware chimpanzees may eat birds. I’ve never seen anything about it in a video or read any papers on it. That’s very interesting!

        Thanks.

Word is, Neggie ate a frog once.

Yes she’s eaten a few frogs in her day. We once saw her eat a humming bird as well. Generally, the chimps don’t actually eat the birds they catch though.

My what a delicious video to savor! How many calories do the chimps ingest each day?

    • Avatar Anna on December 5, 2018 at 2:54 pm

We don’t count their calories or weigh their food, so it’s not always exactly the same each day. We estimate portion sizes and keep an eye on them to see any weight changes. Here’s an example of breakfast for 1 chimp: 2 portions of fruit (1 portion= 1 piece of fruit about the size of an apple), Some fruit smoothie with protein powder, chewable vitamins, small handful of peanuts and 2 primate chow bags.

Haha! She squirted herself on the nose! Happens to me when I eat oranges 1/2 at a time, too, Neggie!
    Oranges and view! Great breakfast!

I enjoy oranges just like the beautiful Queen, and I always get squirted with the juice.

Since watching the chimps vids when they’re eating, I’ve become more present while I’m eating and enjoying it more!! The chimps as teachers!! Love and hugs to you all…

And it goes without saying but I’ll say it anyways. Be still my beating heart. This video totally made my day!

Oh Negra, you are simply divine! I thoroughly enjoyed watching and hearing Her Majesty thoroughly enjoy her royal breakfast.
