Thank you so much for following the chimps and your kind words, Nadia! Happy New Year!

Happiest of New Years to you, Kathleen! Foxie’s choice would have been my kind of choice for New Year’s Eve as well. It’s thrilling to see her adventurous soul growing more and more courageous. And I agree, it feels like the chimps demonstrate more and more their trust in a future of comfort and freedom. What an amazing thing so many humans have come together to create and maintain for them.

Thank you for loving the chimps, Elaine! I think for us all, they are the gift really. 🙂

Thank you, Kathleen. I was glad to solve the “mystery” of what Missy was sneaking away with in the video :). I think you are right about the same things making things more special for humans. When we dress up and bring out “grandma’s china” it surely indicates a special occasion. For the chimpanzees, it’s paper plates, so the cues and associations are different, but they are there for all of us!

Happy New Year to you, Francoise! Our highs have been reaching right at or below freezing, but so far we are having a pretty mild winter – especially compared to last year! You have us well beat in the cold department. :/ Yes, it’s easy to sometimes get caught up in the human “time schedule” for a minute given all we need to accomplish each day, but it really is an incredible joy to see the chimps truly making choices about their day and being able to provide that space for them to do so. That’s really what sanctuary is about afterall. And I think it helps us humans to stay present in the moment and embrace things as they come, just as the chimps do. A gift from them to us.

Snoozy sweethearts. Are you sure these aren’t from New Year’s Eve? I hear they were out for the count that day.

Thank you for sharing this! Helmikuu – such a nice word to learn. We do often have snow that stays soft and fluffy for longer than a day or two. Though, not with this storm. There were warmer temperatures in addition to freezing rain that created a crust on top of the snow that had fallen. J.B. just made some pathways on the hill for the chimps with the tractor so Jamie can continue her patrols. One thing is for certain, the weather will change again in time.

Cool cat Jamie. My kind of chimp. Books. Lots. Snacks. Lots. Only thing missing is blankets. Lots. And a cuppa tea. Very sweet. Love her!!

Hi Tobin – They don’t let things like peels and rinds deter them. Sometimes they’ll even eat them!

Wishing all the Chimps and the Cage Givers a wonderful 2018! Live long and live free.
