What time is rise and shine each morning and are the chimps usually already awake, up and about..except Negra of course…or does the breakfast preparations wake them? And, what time is lights out in the evening? Do they go down with the sun and or light or do you just have a particular time that signals bed time for everyone?
Good questions! Staff arrive at 9:00 a.m. during the summer time, and an hour earlier in the winter. Usually most people are awake at this point (with the sometimes exception of Negra like you said). We leave around 5:30 each evening and most people are bedded down or headed to bed. Sometimes during the summer Jamie likes to stay out walking on Young’s Hill after our usual close time and might not come in until it gets dark. The chimps still get up a bit off and on during the evening, but are usually quieter when it finally gets dark.
So instead of you guys getting to leave at 5:30 during the summer months, one lucky person gets to stay till dark when Jamie decides she wants to come in, right? I did read that about her…too funny! Do you draw straws as to who gets to stay or does Jamie decide who is staying? 🙂
Oh it’s not just one person, it’s two lucky people 😉
We have two people assigned on our schedule for p.m. on call every day in case she decides to stay out. So if she doesn’t come in on your assigned day, you stay and walk laps around Young’s Hill with her 🙂
🙂 Yes, I would consider myself lucky to be able to go on those twilight walks with her!
